How much of your inventory do you actually use?

I've only been in world 3 months and get carpal tunnel scrolling through my inventory.
And that's after cleaning and deleting every few days. I'm in freebie overload

Unforunately, you know as well as I do, that once you start clearing out your old junk, that you've never used, a few days later you suddenly realise why you got hold of it.... you've already cleared your Trash, and can't for the life of you remember where you got hold of it.

I wish our inventory had a "Storage" facility in it so that we could put stuff there that we might some time in the future need but don't right now, kinda like a virtual "Closet under the Stairs".

I couldprobably do without 50% of my inventory. I know this might sound strange. But when I have near-viring alts with almost zero inventory, they seem to run better. This might be a client-side thing, tho, or I'm just insane.

I made the mistake of dumping almost all of my unused items into a folder called SORT THIS. Probem is.... I never really went back to srot it, and now I'm back in the same place. I also happen to have six seperate Objects folders, much to my dismay.

My inventory ideally stays well below four-thousand items because the window stays open a lot and having more items than that drags me to a crawl. I've simply developed a habit of throwing away things I don't use very regularly.

There is one folder where I put odd gifts and very old things. They get checked ever so often for bugs such as missing creator tags or missing textures. When that happens, I chuck them in the bin for fear that referencing their record may corrupt other items in the table.

So my answer is probably higher than most; but still only around fifty percent because I do collect junk until the total items gets to around thirty-eight-hundred. Then I'll clean it down to around thirty-two.

I like to sit in the Sutherland Dam when I'm cleaning. It's very nice and peaceful in there.

I don't want to talk about my inventory. It's too painful for me.

I have two folders at the top of my inventory.

One's a "!attic" folder for freebies.

One's a "!safe" folder for originals of copyable items that actually cost money or time.

I'd like it if the Lindens would make a couple of changes to the inventory:

1. If you have a folder selected when you hit search, search only in that folder.

2. If you see a folder that starts with some character (such as ".";) don't search it unless it's the selected folder. Don't show landmarks in this folder on the map. Don't show calling cards in this folder in friends. Don't bring up textures or animations in this folder when editing textures or gestures. These "dot" folders can only be accessed explicitly.

3. Rename "Trash" to ".Trash". Same for "Lost and Found".

That way I could add a ".archive" for really old stuff and I wouldn't search it unless I was really desperate.

Cool, I'm not the only person who uses punctuation to move the listing around! You'd hate to see my "my documents" type Windows folder.

Keep up with that diligence in inventory cleaning and you'll thank yourself for it later, when you really need to find something and can't remember the exact name to Search for it.

I recommend boxing up old inventory you don't currently use, but aren't quite ready to part with, and either leaving it somewhere in world, or storing it in a folder called Basement, Garage, Attic or something similar. If you name the boxes like Toys or Clothes or something, it should make it easier to find and dig through those items when you think you might want/need them, especially with the new Open feature for boxes.

My inventory usage varies dynamically based on what I'm actually using. On a casual basis, I too recommend spending a few minutes each day sorting and tidying things up--it really adds up!

Also consider putting things that you want to archive into a plywood cube. Just rez one on the ground and drag objects from your Inventory into it, and then label it appropriately (i.e. "A Bunch of Stuff I MAY Someday Use...";). Then, take it back. Advantage to this is you get to keep your inventory but it doesn't take up additional items, making Searches faster. A disadvantage is you can't have folders and subfolders within the Contents of an object.

I did this once! about a month later I accidently deleted it. Apparently the object had a no-copy item in it and when I was done, I deleted it - it WAS a plywood cube after all. If you do use this method of archiving items beware of stupidity.

what I did was make an office in my house with boxes shaped like file cabinets and dumped all my old stuff in it according to what it was... furniture, textures, poseballs.. so on and so on and since the boxes are rezed in my office it makes my inventory very neat.

I bought 2 wonderful gadgets from ThInc The Inventory Box Organizer and the Texture Organizer. Using these 2 gadgets I managed to take my inventory from 20,000+ items down to 3,000.

The improvement in Game performance was astonishing. BTW the cutoff for Max game performance seems to be around 3,500 inventory items. :)

I am not in any way associated with ThInC. Just found these gadgets to be a lifesaver.

Problem with relying on boxing up items: In the event of inventory corruption, you run the risk of loosing a ton of items at once, rather than one or two.

I'm in Second Life for the long term, to do business.

Thus: Brutally efficient with Inventory, No group affiliations unless I can't function without them, &c.

I've been accused of not placing a prim on my land unless it directly (or indirectly) brings income. Such as making the place nice for visitors with trees and the like.

I do have a small folder for personal items, but that's it really. I don't have a house in the world, just a place for business open to everyone.

I think we need the ability to make our own icons on the inventory. Colorized at least.
I'm tired of using **MISC** so I know this is the "throw everything here" folder.
I guess that is the same as the Sort This folder someone was talking about. Cause all I can see is an ocean of white letters and yellow folders. All looks the same ta me.

Anyway, yeah, custom icons please. :)
And the ability to backup our items to the our hard drive. If we so wish to do so. :D
