It's starting to grate on me a little the way people can teleport to you without you even being consulted on such things. Sometimes you want to just be alone building or having a private chat with a friend on your own land. I know a lot of you are gonna say "Remove them from your friends list then", or "Ban them from your land". But that simply isn't good enough. I'm not always on my land, and at the end of the day, they are still my friends even if they do ignore my requests to stop TPing to me. So, my idea for a proposal is this....
Keep the direct TPing system we have, working in the way that you can TP directly to a Landmark you have AND person to person. But! If someone tries to initiate a person to person teleport, then the other party is made aware of this and given the choice to reject the teleport or not. When you try to summon someone, they get a choice as to whether they want to go or not. Why can't it work the other way around too? Also I think the direct teleporting system should be restricted to landmarks and person-to-person, meaning if you simply click to the left of your friend if they reject your request, then when you teleport, you appear at a telehub instead.
This is just a basic idea right now. All additions or ideas regarding this are welcome. I'd like to try and get a general concensus of everyone before I put it up for voting.

Why dont you just give your "friends" all a link to this Thread? I doubt you'll have much problems with them again..

Also the more tactfully polite friends will ask first before porting in. If they persist, remove them from friends and simply keep calling cards instead.

The rest of your post is a result of you misusing the friends system - and no dang way do I think we should nerf the teleport system for the rest of us because of it.

I think an "invisible" feature would be a much better idea. People would not be able to find you just by looking at your profile, and it would not take away any features that others like.

Only prob is when your showing offline and somebody stumbles onto you and asks "why are you showing offline?" How are you going to respond?

With tact. Or even a feature that allowed more control over privacy: visible to all, visible but no teleport / do not show on map, invisible to all.

HAHA....guess you didnt see the sarcaism in that....but good ideas. I know at somepoint in the day I would like to be invisible to everybody but certain people, esp the annoying drama created by alts of people you dont want to talk to anymore!

From: Kimmer Soyer or get rid of teleporting once and for all. And flying. Get rid of flying. Why, back in my day, we'd WALK to get wherever we were going, and we LIKED it! Even if it was a skybox 500m in the sky! In a snowstorm, uphill, both ways! Stop slouching, sonny, or yer back'll be as bad as mine when yer twenty-eight skidoo!

If teleporting and/or flying was gutted, then it would make it a lot harder and longer to get to various places.
As for privatly building land, isn't there a feature that already exists where you can make the land private by either having one of those acces features to the land?
Example for Land Access: 1. Only you 2. Friends only 2. Selected Group only 3. Public
If not, someone might want to take alook into it.
I haven't gotten time to get around with the land owning features with SL.

Guys, stick to constructive critism and contributions to the idea.
If you can't sit there for 5 mins and come up with a single thing worth reading, then don't write anything at all.

After reading all the posts here, I would probably say the easiest and best solution is to chose your Friends list more carefully. Not everyone needs to be on the Friends list. Many, you can keep the same sort of relationship with just by using the calling cards. Real friends are respectful of each other's space and ask their friends before teleporting into their land / home (or, if they make the mistake once and their friend tells them that they would rather have them ask first, they will make a careful note to do so). They automatically think of the other person, or at least feel bad when they realize they made a mistake. If someone willingly violates my privacy again and again after I've asked them not to, I would not consider them a "Friend."

In all seriousness, I'd have to agree with what Rhynalae said. If someone who's on your Friends list doesn't learn how you want to be treated after you've told them politely on several occasions... then, frankly, they shouldn't be on that list. How nice or well-meaning they may seem has no bearing. Remember that they can still be your "friend" without being on your Friends list.

P2P is for "Point to Point" teleporting, not person to person. SL allows you to designated whom you allow to TP directly to you via your friends list. You can be friends without allowing them access to this list, or you can simply tell your friends polietly, not to TP directly to you without IMing fist. I asked that of all my friends, and every one of them does so. It's simply a curtosy we extend to each other in a a show of respect for our friendship. ~Jessy
