The Off Topic forum's offtopicicity, or AQ (Aloofness Quotient) has been reduced by being given a SLishy name and being stuck in the midst of SLishy forums.

I look at it and see "favorite SL" instead of a theist versus atheiest debate or a Bush sucks/goesn't suck thread and it just seems wrong.

To me sandbox suggests a forum for building and scripting.
The name sucks, doesnt fit, and into the bargain it sucks.

Oh, and did i say "The Sandox" sucks as on offtopic forums name?

Actually I read a post last night by Torley that she was moving a thread to the Sandbox and immediately thought Good one girl this thread is combative enough for a sandbox sim. Only later after posting did I realize that was what the name of off topic had been changed to. ;)

Well, I am glad to see the Lindens are diverting their resources to the things that really matter.

Changing the name of a forum probably takes..what? 5 seconds? And let's not forget that managing the forums is some Linden employee's primary job function.

"Sandbox" has several meanings. It's the small place where the kiddies are sent to play when the grownups want to talk. It's where cats poop. It's also, as some of you have pointed out, where SLers build and experiment and grief each other.

None of the above really describes an Off Topic forum.

Actually, in the SL off-topic forums, I think all of your descriptions applied perfectly.

To a degree, yes :) But there are occasionally some very thoughtful and interesting discussions there.

Most of the people who hung out in Off-Topic and made it interesting moved to OFF-OFF-TOPIC (other forums) to avoid resmod(ification) and the clear potential for getting banned from SL.
