Okay, this has probably been discussed before, but I searched for several minutes and couldn't find it.

I've noticed that some people have the "Show on Map" function disabled in their profiles, and I would like to be able to do this. I've searched through the menus IW, and through the preferences pre-login, but haven't been able to see how to do this.

Can someone tell me how, please?

It doesn't show if you don't have their friendship. In 1.12, there's the ability in Debug-> Hacked Godmode for this to show up on everyone. So you would be able to stalk anybody you wish.

If you're not that person's "freind", then your "show on map" button is disabled for them.

"Show on Map" only normally works if the person who's profile you are looking at is on your friends list. if they are not on your friends list you normally can not map find them.

Okay, guess I should have noticed that quite simple pattern. Seems obvious, now. New and still a little overwhelmed, I suppose. Thanks, folks.

I wonder if there is any point having the ability to map. I mean, what positive purpose does it provide? I would imagine that most people don't tp straight to their friends unannounced, anyway. Time to get rid? Or at least have the choice to not be mapped by anyone, and still have a friends list.

For me, I like the mapping feature. I've used it to keep track of friends when we're all shopping together in malls. (You know how us girls can get while shopping.. "*squeek!* omg look at this outfit *darts off*" "um.. which outfit where? um.. where'd you go?";) I've also used it while my friend was trying to teach me how to fly an SL helicopter and I kept getting horribly lost. :p

I'll also map my friends to see what they're up to, not the creepy stalkerish sort of way, just "oh, so and so is on *map* oh, they're over in *insert favorite gathering place*, I'll stop in for a bit" or "oh, so and so is on *map* oh, they're at their house with someone else.. better leave them alone! o.o"

:p

I think it would be nice to be able to turn it on and off though.

I've had a couple friends that have done it (tp'd to me, that is), but they were new to SL. I'm just glad I wasn't naked.

Edit: And I have used it while shopping with a friend. Her computer is much faster, and I can't keep up. So I follow the red bar...

It's a bullshit feature.

If someone i'm shopping with needs to get to an outfit I see, I can TP them. Or tell them where it is (most stores are not THAT huge).

I work at a club, i look at almost everyone's profile who comes in. 90% of them have in their main area "Don't map me or i'll cut your card" or some such thing.

It should be removed.

I think I'd appreciate the potential for a little anonymity. Just because someone is my friend doesn't necessarily mean that I want them to always know where I am and how many people are around.

Creates too much potential for 'Oh hi... what am I doing here? Well, it's not what it looks like I assure you!'

I'd like to able to turn that feature on and off for myself and be able to go somewhere without worrying about people on my friends list wondering why I'm wherever I am. Sometimes I have two friends of mine that don't get along with each other, and it's awkward when one can see that I'm at the other one's house.

Changing the subject a little, I wish there was a way to kind of hide groups from your profile that you're a part of. Some of them have names that are... well I just wish there was more anonymity in the game.
