The website for SLTV (http://secondlife.com/tv/) is finally gone. It stayed up, with a "coming soon" message, long after the project was abandoned by the Lindens.

Maybe, one day, we will really have SLTV. I look forward to that day. Adios, SLTV. We hardly knew ye.

:(

Good idea in theory - not thought through.. I beleive that TV in SL will start the same as radio.. at the grass roots level by a group of enthusiasts.

I'd like to see it happen - I'd like to have the time to help make it happen.. But a LOT of work for anyone that takes it on - certainly not a small project.

With any luck, Pony was sent to the glue factory and rendered into something a little more worth the time and effort.

That was a pretty pricey pony, and he was way past the 30 day warranty.

I was excitied by this project. But it was inevitable really.

We should concentrate on collecting SL Machina into one place and go from there.

That would be awsome. Who says it has to be from SL. There is a ton of other machinima that could supply a tv station in SL. I bet those creators would like the publicity.
Couldn't that be automated too? With the occasional edit of show changes?
I dunno much about hosting that stuff really.

We could even have a weather channel. That should be easy.
"It will be bright and sunny" on a loop

In order to make SLTV work LL would have had to front the costs of a production company. While they wouldn't have to buy expensive camera equipment, etc, etc, they would need to get SL-capable machines, people that would use them. They'd need Poser artists, builders, voice actors, and they'd need a huge lot of them in order to produce the amount of video they wanted weekly. And since SL doesn't have any controllable camera solutions yet (I mean built-in) it'd be some pretty lame or disorienting video.

Well name it machinima TV then cause its not made in SL. :)
Has anyone seen the Halo's? I forget the name of it or who made the series but there was a good show done in the Halo engine. Saw some on G4.

Red VS Blue?

Additionally, for anyone interested in starting up their own projects and worried about bandwidth/hosting, you can make a fairly complicated animation in Macromedia Flash, with a very low filesize that won't eat up all of your bandwidth, and Quicktime can open the .swf/flash movie and play it in world... Just can't use any of the other bells/whistles/interactivity of flash, but a straightforward animation works great, and I haven't seen hardly any people using this method yet...

Video was last seen wandering around the cornfield muttering "not enough light, not enough hamster dance..." over and over again to no one.

'sup forum doods...been busy doing contract work, video editing for a public access cable channel in Albequerque. job ended last month and i've been couch surfing since then, staying with a buddy in the Mission in SF for now. So Linden Lab is building a media channel and collecting machinima clips and podcasts and whatnot. If you've got anything cool you'd like to see broadcast, shoot me a line inworld.

I wonder what's really going on.

The SLTV group is still active, and as I understand, the two people who run it (who have each other in partner fields) - Fox Diller and Selkit Diller - are still doing "stuff".

There's probably a whole lot I *can't* say, but Fox Diller's public profile very interesting:

From: Fox Diller's public profile

---I run so much in Second Life that I should be a Linden----
-----Now on consider me a NON OFFICIAL psuedo-Linden-----
-------------I run Second Life Televison (SLTV)-----------------
----------I am also an admin for FurNation Worlds--------------

I dunno, I don't get straight answers from Fox or Linden Lab about SLTV.
