From: Catherine Omega This actually brings up something that's been on my mind for a while: That's the problem with a flat default message system, rather than a branching tree structure; it allows threads to be greviously hijacked, effectively ruining debate and conversation. It allows threads to get so radically off-topic, a new one has to be created to address --guess what?-- the original topic. Honestly, if we could have threads that branched by default, that veered in and out of different forums or categories as appropriate, This sounds like a great idea. Are there any forums anywhere that use such a scheme?

The forums are threaded, pick a different option from the display modes menu at the top right of a thread.
Don't know if it'd help much, but you could try and persuade the powers that be to set one of the threaded displays as default if you want.

Problem is, most people are probably used to just scrolling down and pressing reply. I know i'm.

Could do with getting rid of the reply button at the bottom and adding one to each post I guess. A lot of people do seem to use the quote button when they reply though, especially when they're flaming each other.

They aren't multi-branching, just able to be displayed in a simple outline format. They arent anything at all like what is described in the Catherine Omega quote.

They arent anything at all like what is described in the Catherine Omega quote. Okay, reread the quote, and you're right - think I must've skipped the last sentance. I think the structure's probably similar enough that it wouldn't be too hard to modify them so they are though. Of course, I could see even more complaints about moderation occuring if they were like that...
