A pal of a pal has a problem. Somebody *not* on his friend's list claims to know who he's with, and where he is at any time (across a number of sims). This person also claims to know what he's talking about, and he gets the details right. He claims to be using a "scanner". According to this pal of a pal. If the story is true, he should clearly AR this individual, but I get the impression he's being reluctant. (Hmm... ) It's a stranger who started IMing him after all...and harrassing him. So why the reluctance? I wonder if any of you have theories on the likelihood of this? It sounds to me like somebody on his friend's list is using an alt to harrass him. Given the situation, it sounds like the friend on his list leading the double life is close to him. How else would the alt know about conversational details?

From: Wrom Morrison I thought that part of the "God Mode" thingy didnt work? It seems you can use it to map anyone, anywhere, friend or foe. All this guy would need to do is map him, and then tp near enough to overhear conversations. He would also know where he is and who he is with.

It's in the preview: Debug-> Hacked Godmode.
I do love it, but there's one major downside that has been mentioned, which is the map anyone feature.

A wonderful addition to SL that has rendered even less secure. God Mode. Find any resident and where they are. Peek across whole sim to see who they with. Privacy, GONE. Can be used on Main Grid.

You can always shake a following chat logger by teleporting, though. (As long as you teleport further than 96m of course.)

Your pal of a pal should AR. We need more of an outcry from people who have been stalked by others who are using the God Mode hack. This is a big problem, and it needs to be fixed soon.
If the stalker is using a script device to listen to and log or forward chat, LL will be able to tell by looking through their chat logs.

Well, the God Mode thing will allow you to map people, for now. However, in order to see if they're online, there's a script device on SL Exchange called Sally that will IM you (I've seen it used, kinda interesting) when the person comes online.

you don't need God mode or a follower if you know where the people hang out the most. A simple combonation of a couple things makes it easy to evesdrop. A) owning some land right next to the person whom you want to listen to. B) finding land next to them that does not have auto-return activated. Sure, they may be out of range depending on their land size, but it's still something that can be done with just a llListen();

Even if they have no proof whatsoever, just a hunch (or a verbal threat) that a person is using a chat logger on them, they can abuse-report it. LL can quickly check their chat logs and find out whether a listener script is being used. This means it's not a very good idea to use such llListen() devices, and if someone's using one on you, you're not helpless (as long as you report quickly so that LL still has the chat logs).

I can see no good that can come of this reverse engineering project, only bad. Maybe someone from the project can convince me otherwise, but until then...
