Those are group titles. You can get group titles by joining groups, or making a group yourself with whatever title you choose (but you need 3 people to maintain a group).

Hi Amabilla. :)

What you're seeing is likely the person's "group title", they either belong to a group they identify themselves with (like the Radio DJs) or have a "vanity group" consisting of them and their friends/alternate accounts that they make just so they can have a cool title. The optiion to set this title is in the group info dialog. You can look under Find -> Groups for examples.

The other thing you may be seeing are people using what's called a "titler", a scripted attachment with the ability to create floating text. Tet like this isn't part of the nametag. There are many avalible in world, both free and for a fee, and they're farily simple to make if you're brave enough to delve into a little easy LSL.

Hope that helps!

If the text you're seeing is a different color than the person's name and floats directly over the person's head instead of staying with their name then it is indeed a titler.

One place you can get a free titler is the Port Cos sim. Right when you get there you can get a titler that says "Guest of Port Cos" in green over your head when you wear it. The nice thing about it is it's editable and copyable. I took one and have made a number of other titles for me and my friends by making copies and editing them.

To change the text you have to edit the script file inside the object (drag the titler to the ground, right-click it, click Open, double-click the script file). You can replace the "Guest of Port Cos" text with anything you want, and to change the color you can input your own RGB (red, green, and blue) values to replace the 0.0, 1.0, 0.0 that are in the script.

Note that the RGB values in Second Life scripts are 1.0-based instead of 256-based. For example, a typical RGB code for red in a graphics application would be 255,0,0 but in SL scripts it's 1.0,0.0,0.0.

It's pretty easy to convert values though, if you've already got a 256-based code in mind. Just divide the regular RGB values by 255.
