What's the point of 200m ban lines when there's nothing on the ground?

Just bought some first land, and right next door my neighbour put up 200M universal ban lines (banning everyone not on their list). Ugly as sin, make it hard to fly around and view my own land...but my main complaint is how useless they are. All of my neighbour's builds are at around 700 meters. They don't have anything on the ground at all, let alone a building they want to keep people out of. So the point is just to annoy everyone, I guess.

I bet they don't think for even a moment about the effect the ban lines have, or if they even ever look at their land at group level - they just set them and go. I know there's a debate over privacy, etc, but how about this for a feature:

For this kind of situation ban is useless. Autoreturn is what I use since my skybox is around 300 meters.

Ugh yes i really hate the way the ban lines look . Having words written across the air really takes away from the look of the over-all environment. Would be cool to choose whether or not you want to see them !

Well, when, and IF, the Lindens implement the next round of proposed changes, those ban lines will climb all the way up to the top of reality, for anyone not on the parcel's access list. At that point, their 700 M high sky-home will have some small measure of protection. Pity it will create such an eyesore for everyone else. Ah well...

I must agree that a feature to turn OFF visibility of ban lines would be a good idea.

I used to rent an attractive 2048 M2 parcel of land that I shared with two friends. We had it covered in beautiful trees, and nicely landscaped, with a fire ring and picnic table that we could sit around and enjoy company at.

Then someone rented the parcel next to ours, and built an extremely ugly castle on it. Very crudely built and textured, with no windows. Then they turned on the ban lines, banning anyone not in their tiny group, and left them on 24 x 7, even though there was virtually NEVER anyone from their group present on that parcel of land! At any altitude.

It ruined our view, and made our own area much less pleasant. We placed a 30 M wide, 25 M high 'wall' on that side of our property, textured to look like a majestic, spreading oak tree. It covered most of the side of the castle, but still looked pretty bad. And those ban lines spread well past that point.

Finally, after complaints to the sim owner fell on deaf ears, we terminated our rental agreement and moved to a lot on a private island, where the sim owner strictly enforces zoning and building codes.
