I see in this thread that Strife has locked an account for alt account abuse:

/108/af/120427/1.html

I am sure hoping a Linden told them it was an alt (though I wonder why the Linden wouldn't just lock it then), and they aren't able to get this info on their own. If they are able to do so, their last names need to be changed to Linden.

Any Linden or resmod out there that can clarify?

FWIW, VBulletin does have a feature that logs the IP address of every post. Anyone with Admin priveledges can see the IP's. If LL choses to, they can allow moderators that ability as well, but it seems that they haven't.

In the thread in question, the OP (in a thread that had just been locked), said himself (in the threak he linked to) that he was using an alt to get around a suspenstion. So, unless it's obvious like that, we don't know anything about whose alts are whose.

Sl uses a basic forum lay out that most forums use. Under their administrator controls they can see the ip of each and every person that post and all of the ips they use to post with. But this is the case on all forums, it is a necessary tool to ban ppl effectively.

I actualy didn't lock the thread, I just added that as a coup de grace. Since he admitted to it, it seemed right to post the consequences. I wish him good luck in his future endevers and pray they don't involve me.

If a proxy system is in use, the only IP that shows up is that of the proxy.

If you and five hundred others use the same proxy service, there is no way to separate them based on IP address. That is the basis of internet privacy. Google anonymous proxy.

As Strife mentioned, if you follow the thread trail you'll see that the banned poster openly admitted to posting under an alt. No elite alt-detecting abilities necessary.
