Hey gang! Just got back from England and heard from some of my friends that the rights have been secured to stream the audio and video of the home run derby tonight inside Second Life at 5pm on the sim named "Baseball" (shocking choice for a name, eh?)! Getting noticed by ESPN is definitely a milestone for SL, even in another year when the Philadelphia Phillies are completely horrible (again). I wonder how long it'll be until we see "real time" 3-D re-enactments with NPCs based off of pure data - I've "watched" games online before, and with some of the data streamed, it doesn't seem like this would be too hard to pull off. Regards, -Flip

Welcome back Flip! What's "The Home Run Derby?" I'm Canadian and I'm not a sportsfan. Is is like the Kentucky Derby but baseball players race instead of ponies?

Ha! Rounders. Gawd, I remember playing that. The home run derby is a yearly contest they have during baseball's all-star break where a batting practice pitcher throws easy-to-crush pitches to baseball's strongest hitters (who are now hopefully no longer on steroids). It's a silly American tradition, but a fun one, nonetheless. I'm more interested in a network as large as ESPN showing interest in the Second Life platform than the event itself, to be honest, but its quite a milestone! ESPN is owned by Disney, which has had quite a few things pop up in SL over the past few years: the ESPN home run derby (Electric Sheep), and the Hitchhiker's Guide and Narnia films being promoted (Rivers Run Red). Oh, and take off, eh, you hoser! Regards, -Flip
