4. The fact that we did not significantly LOD avatar attachments prior to 1.8.2 is actually a bug. We respect that attachments are a significant part of how many residents present themselves, but whether they are aware of it or not, residents that rely on attachments for their appearance already often appear without attachments due to limits in object transmission rates. In order to create a better experience for everyone we need to be able to use LOD to maintain a reasonable framerate. We will strive to do this in a way that is as transparent as possible to our residents, however with the range of PC hardware being as wide as it is, there is no getting around the fact that Second Life will appear slightly different on different machines.

5. This is a *good* thing. The vast majority of residents will see *no* noticeable difference in avatar appearance and their framerate in crowded areas will improve by about 10-20%. Residents with a large number of detailed attachments will no longer significantly hurt other residents' frame rates.

As Karen pointed out, this is a good thing. I'm willing to accept this point, since it's emphasized with stars.

In other words, some people with the processor power can crank it up to full, and other people with less than optimal hardware can get less Seconds Per Frame in some conditions.

No, wait, thet's when the world ends.

Usually before noon SL time. Depends on how well the install is going there.

I'm going to go around VICIOUSLY culling attachments when I get online. It'll be a BLOODBATH. There won't be an intact avatar on the grid.

People are weak. Delicious, but weak and ripe for the culling. And that's what the culling is for, right? We're culling the weak and thinning the heard, right?

If only I had known that the word "culling" would be the new fad earlier... :p

Mmmm... I can see the movie now.... "The Culling Fields". A SL resident is trapped within SL, and the Lindens are going crazy by culling attachments. The SL citizen tries to get the word out about the atrocities by going to the RL but has to leave his AV behind since they're a citizen. Will his AV be culled? Dun-dun-dun-duuuuunnnnnn!!

I recommend we regroup when the grid comes back up. Pull out the biggest controllable weapon you have, band together. It'll be the only way to protect yourselves from..

The Culled Zombies! Disfigured freaks of nature, trying to get close enough to infect you with their CPU torturing LOD!

Burke, my skybox has a clear view of the surrounding area, and we can use the barge below to make escape if the box gets overrun.
But promise me this, my friend.
We save enough ammo for killing each other if the situation gets desperate.
Better to die at the hands of a comrade, than a ravenous brain eating zombie.

True. Because you don't really 'die' from a zombie attack. Damn. I need to make a shotgun when I get back inworld. But a shotgun has less UI than a rifle.
