There used to be a number of posts here by an avatar with the name Torley Torgeson , with a distinctive icon. The names on these posts have been changed to Torley Linden, and the icon has been changed to some kind of oddball hand with an eyeball in it, what is that about, is Torley Linden really Peter Falk??? This is a matter of utmost urgency!!!!! The time to act is now!!!!! ------ I have had this thought before about forum signatures and forum avatars and such, it does seem to be odd that you can't go back and see people's posts the way the really looked when they were made. Have there been other civilian to Linden transitions made in such a public manner? My understanding is that the old civilian account may still exist but the new Linden account wouldn't have the inventory , etc. Has the birth of Torley Linden caused the end of Torley Torgeson? Are there two accounts or one?

There's only a single (1) Torley account now, and that is Torley Linden.
This chops down confusion.
However, I still have many avatar forms. So, a horse, a human, a bipedal bunny, a robot, etc. All me tho!
In a speculative fiction way, it's kind of like UNIFIED TORLEY THEORY and all have been summed into one now. Well, not the blue-and-orange one from Preview Grid 1.6. Sadly, she's dead.

From: Siggy Romulus The new icon is griefing me and devaluing my posts... Oh, Siggy, you sell yourself short, your posts devalue themselves quite well. And to the OP, the forum software works that way: change your signature or forum icon and all past posts show with the new information. It does tend to shoot a hole in the "we cannot change your in-game name" that is often offered up by LL, which I think was more always accurately "we don't like to change names because it is hard".

From: Siggy Romulus The new icon is griefing me and devaluing my posts... People have complained there hasn't been enough Linden involvement in the forums. Making Torley a Linden might be the efficient approach to these complaints. Siggy Linden, Enabran Linden, Cristiano Linden, Ulrika Linden, Kris Linden, Chip Linden, Cocoanut Linden, a few more Lindenizations along that line, and no one will have any reason to think we don't get enough Linden involvement in the forums. Torley's Lindeniszation has been handled in a novel manner, has Is not? There wasn't a Jeska OldName, or a Dan OldName, was there? The standard practice has been to maintain two separate accounts, with restrictions on the activities the old civilian account was allowed to be involved in. Correct? Torley's Lindenizatioin is being handled in a unique way, is that right? Or have there been other examples of a regular acount being converted to a LInden account with all inventories and group memberships, account creation date showing date of civilian account creation, still a member of a profit making group that gets paid by the Linden company, etc,. and everyone knows about it. Somehow the lack of connectedness, the detachment and purely work related natue of the Linden accounts give the impression that they would try to be impartial and not have any stake in civialian matters. There seems to be something odd or at least different about Torley's transitions to Lindenhood.

From: SuezanneC Baskerville Kris Linden LMFAO. Yeah. I can just see that. The chances of LL hiring me, ever, are exactly nil. Unless they decide that official policy in communication to residents on all issues should be "fuck off, whiner" in the future.

The standard practice has been to maintain two separate accounts, with restrictions on the activities the old civilian account was allowed to be involved in. Correct? I have been wondering this myself, but didn't feel like bringing it up and getting in the way of all the feel goods. Specifically, how this seems at odds with the two account practice for Lindens, where as a Linden the person is seen as a representative of LL and a second account with separate name that, in theory, nobody knows is actually Random Linden.

I don't have a problem with it. It's one thing if you have to discipline friends, and completely another if you are doing friendly, helpful sorts of things. Also, Torley has phenomenal amounts of self control, insofar as these forums can easily get people angry, and I've never seen the slightest snap from Torley. If there was a pill one could take to get Torley's personality traits - imagine the change it would make in some people...

From: Desmond Shang I don't have a problem with it. It isn't that I have a problem. Merely wanting to know if (1) I understood the original policy correctly, (2) Was it ever actually a policy, (3) If (1), then when did it change. My questioning really has nothing to do with this particular Linden conversion other than as example. I'm a suit and I demand strict adherence to policy!

There was and perhaps still is somewhere a written passage about this saying that Linden employees are, as I remember it, "strongly encouraged" to keep their former account identity anonymous. There was a notecard with some sort of Linden staff policy in it, can anyone find it? I think ReallyRick had a copy. I should have one, but I don't remember the title to search for it by.

It's at the Linden Recruiting Office in Ambleside (the notecard, I mean).
Or I have a copy I'd be willing to give to people.

I still don't like having the name shown for old posts changed. It's a distortion of truth.

From: Torley Linden There's only a single (1) Torley account now, and that is Torley Linden. Torley, So what happens if you stop being a Linden? Do you get to keep your account as Torley Torgeson, or is the account now LL's property? I would have asked to keep the accounts separate, one for personal use, and one for work purposes.

I have never thought about that--I'll say something spontaneous if that ever happens, as is my ka to do. I have no interest in keeping things separate though. Everything I have said and done here... is me. And that's the best way I can put it.

I also find it somewhat disturbing that old posts aren't shown with the signature that they had when they were posted.
People do all sorts of stuff in signatures, sometimes posts don't make sense with an updated signature.

Hee hee ,it would be real tough for me to try to maintain two distinct characters that didn't walk, jump, and fly just alike and said differnet types of things, made different typos, all the stuff you would have to do to make different characters seem different. If you meet somebody while you are one character and see them while you are the other character you would have to act like you didn't know them.

I don't know if I agree with the objections to forum revisionist history, considering you can, at any time, edit one of your own posts and as such - revise history.
