Interesting bit of news found through MTV, they have a list of the top 10 influential gamers of all time, Anshee Chung and Peter Ludlow appears to be on the list. Both seem to attract a lot of different attention in SecondLife (Anshee with land, Pteer with The SecondLife Herald). Love them, hate them, that's your choice, but it seems that their work is well noticed. Congrats.

Known for all the wrong reasons.

There are probably a thousand people who have positively affected SL far more than either of those - yet its the notorious ones that get bought to the attention of the media rather than those of us who just sit and quietly get on and do their thing.

I treat this poll with the contempt it deserves.

Then maybe a goal should be to get those other folks the recognition they deserve!

I'm surprized Jonathan Wendal only got a nod. Granted I can't stand the little twerp but he is bar none the most succesful cyberathlete in the US right now. His anual take last year was 150,000, and this year he actually has big name sponsorships and endorsements which will likely tripple that take.

The guy that started CAL/CPL should get a mention too as the takes from CPL world tour would make Anshe blush...

I think it has as well, as I don't see SL as a game, but many do, and it it seen in the outside world as a game, first and formost, than a virtual world. Then again most virtual worlds are games.

Granted, this list really talks about people in the following criteria "Sticking to a basic principle — gamers whose time playing actually affected the culture, creation or business of video games..." and whether you like it or not, those on the lsit that represent SecondLife have represented some of the major effects in SL culture and life - economics by land and land rentals, and buisness' in Virtual Worlds, and literary publications detailing the day to day on goings of the Virtual World that it is in.

Granted, I feel that a few people in the "gaming" community as a whole were excluded, I think the list is fairly accurate - and interesting none the less.

I have no respect for that first name at all after what she did to the furry community. IMO she's right down there with Plastic_Duck.
