Hi. I'm new to Second Life and am finding it difficult to earn money. In order to help other people I am thinking of setting up a job ageny. People come to me and leave their details which I pass on to employers. Those seeking new partners (business) and employees can also leave their info.

What are peoples' thoughts on this?

There are classifieds in the forums here but we need something in-world.
I would like to see an established, user-created buisness, that does what you suggested.
Something like what Ginko does. But thats a bank.
If it already exists then I sure haven't seen it.

I guess it could be automated also in the infohubs or something.
We need a terminal for jobs alone. So it's obvious to new people. :)

But anything like that inworld would be great I think. Maybe giving newbies a second option besides camping and taking all my chairs :p

My first job was framing artwork for an art musium. :)
I had to yell it out of nowhere to get it thou. I was just lucky someone nearby needed work done.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Im too new to know about forming/editing info hubs so would need some help with that. Hopefully it will eventually lead to a low cost, large and coprehensive database for both employers and employees.

Best of luck with this Vespasian - I feel an employment agency would be of great service!

I know Linden Labs is wanting this kind of thing. So I would go for it. :)
It would just start small at first.
If you go for it. Count me in. I design ships or tech looking things mainly. Something along the lines of this here.
I rarely do contracting work anymore for SL and only have a few times. I'd be interested in doing it again though. I do it in real life anyway. :D
That is mainly why I don't for SL. I can get better pay in real life projects. Everything I do in SL has been market testing so far. And stuff I do for fun I look at as extra cash from a "hobby".
But if some work interests me I'd be happy to try it out again. So go ahead and put me down. I may also need some work. I got a scripter in my group but he only knows certain things. :o And I sadly came from a VB background from long ago. So LSL isn't my idea of fun.
But I could probably use another scripter soon. :D
* Not that the current one is being fired or anything. lol

Heisenberg Casino did this about 4 months ago. Employers would get free booths to set up with notecard dispensors and textures. It turned out very well, many people both needing jobs, and wanting employees show up. It was going to be a weekly thing, but after the first week it never continued. I know other's have tried it but I didn't attend or hear about it, but I'm sure people would be interested.

When I first though of the idea I assumed there would be a good reason why there isnt such an agency. However from what I have heared and seen in SL there doesnt appear to be. Im seriously considering setting this up and just need to form a plan of action, find out what needs to be done (purchase land etc) and look into producing a fully automated system that hopefully cheap for everyone.

This sounds like a good idea to me. It would be even better if it were like a real live temp agency. Where as you did background checks on the employees, and let businesses rent them from you. The advantage of a temp agency being that if one employee goes mising for the day, the agency has a cache of people on-call to fill the position.

But even if it were merely a job seakers group, it would be helpful. I'd send my poachers, err scouts, over to take a look at who is available.

Definately offer some training for your members, hell you could even start a Union with dues that works like a temp agency.

Hmm, I can't think of a way to play devil's advocate on it.
If others have tried and failed. It's not because it won't work.
I think it just needs someone who wants to put real effort toward that service. A business oriented mind and some time to do it.
If that's you, I guess you found a market. :D
