A general "Hi" and a question or two!

Hi all, I started playing SL just under a month ago, and I'm loving it. I've been pleasantly surprised by the general friendliness of people around here (save a few), and how helpful, together and accepting the community seems to be in general.

I've learnt a hell of a lot since starting in SL, and I'm amazed at how easy most of it is to get to grips with. I've tried my hand at most things by now, and I'm starting to learn the wonders of scripting. It seems the more you learn, the more you realise you don't know!

My main interests are buildings and architecture, and I've found some wonderful creations during my travels. I've made a few different eyesores on my own land, which are looking slowly better as my skills increase. I've been experimenting with scripting as I mentioned, and it's resulted in a few crazy contraptions... look me up and drop by if you're ever interested in taking a look ;)

There are two things which I can't seem to find an answer to anywhere... maybe I'm just not looking in the right places! :D

1. I have some land next door to me owned by Governor Linden, with an auction ID attached to it. I can't find any reference to it in the auction, or indeed any possible way to purchase it. Does anyone know how I could purchase such land?

2. I have a structure which appears to cross Sim boundaries. When I walk across this area I simply fall through. Is there any way to prevent this? I've tried all manner of extra platforms and such with no luck... I'm prepared to accept this is "the way it is", but I thought I'd at least ask!

I look forward to your replies :)

Welcome to Sl Hector!

On number 1, theres a few possibilities. It could've been auctioned and then not claimed. Or it could be waiting to be picked up. Or it could not have been auctioned yet.

I'd ask Guy Linden over at Second Life Land Management whats happening with it. Tell him what sim its in and the co-ordinates of the parcel, as well as the auction ID and anything else that might be useful. If its 512 sq m it may well go up for first land of course.

On number 2 its unlikely theres anything you can do about it. I think its something to do with prims not knowing which sim they're in if they cross borders and so it decides on something like it doesn't exist :p.

Other replies may have some suggestions though!

It has been awhile since I tried to build across sim boundaries so if things have changed someone please correct me. THis is all from my experience.

The trick to doing this seems to be to have the parent prim or the exact center of a single prim 2-3m on one side of the boundary or the other. It seems the server gets confused alot less since it is obvious what sim the prim is in. :)

Now once a prim has gone phantom from sim confusion its best to just delete it and start with a fresh prim. FOr some reason I have never been able to unphantom a prim this has happened to.

1) If it has an auction ID it never hurts to ask. If it says protected land dont even dream of it haha, There was a lot with an auction ID next to me for months, i checked daily for it to come on uaction, i posted a friendly question in land management and it was up for sale that week. So never hurts to try. I think sometimes they forget about some parcels.

2) To build across sim boundaries I use large clear prims over lapping, rooted in both sims for about 10 meters into both. This seems to stop people from falling through 99% of the time.

Great, and thanks very much for your most helpful replies :) I'll give the details over in the land management section and try my luck with the sim boundary thing :)
