Wasn't sure where to post this if it's in the gallery or designs..so I'm putting it here (unless the rezmods decide to put it up somewhere). To photographers/Designers/screenshot buffs: I have problems taking repeated hi-res screenies of my avatar for my vendors. I don't know how folks do it, but i've seen a lot of vendors showing the same size, positioning of their models (of course wearing different products like hair and hats) in all their vendors. How do you do this? Is there a trick in the way the camera is positioned? Or should I get those model studios (which isn't very useful unless i can put my own poses inside it)? Thanks for any help given.

Off of the top of my head, they could use pose balls to stand on. Then have a seperate photographer sitting on a cube in mouseview. I'm sure there's lots of ways, you should try asking the creators, I'm sure they'd be willing to tell you how they did it.

There are objects that let you exactly position the camera, I'm not sure if there are any free ones but it shouldn't be hard to make a simple one.

I make pose stands with the camera looking at myself from the right position, ensure the sun is always set to the same place and use Sim Sun Overide in the debug menu to stop it moving. There are plenty of free poses to use if the default ones don't suit you, and the scripting basically just runs to setting the sit target, camera position and playing the animation if you're using one when you sit.
I then use an "Action" I recorded in photoshop to crop & resize the images identically, and a template with any text I want to use set up in place.
I think that about covers it !

The expensive way is a modeling studio.... its basically a background and poses all together. The cheap way.... IM me in world and I'll send you a folder of modeling poses. Build yourself a nice big box (think skybox) and texture the walls inside with the background you want. (solid colors works easiest when editing in photoshop later) In photoshop you can add prices and descriptions and layer pics on top of each other. Good luck EDIT: Oh easy trick to making your model look in the exact direction you want during a pose. Rez a small prim just outside your camera shot and and have him/her aim their mouse at the prim and left click on it (right click will make her go into edit mode and you dont want that) by doing this her eyes will turn in the direction of the prim while she's posing.

I usually use animations, or pose balls but it's the camera angling that I'm having difficulty with especially when I accidentally crash and have to go back online again, the camera angling won't be the same as I did with the first picture (i tend to crash almost every snapshot). I am interested at those objects that help position the camera exactly) As for the rest, I really love the advice! Most of the stuff I model are medieval to victorian-esque gowns (hard to find model poses for those) so every little bit helps! Thanks Allana for the offer, I'll send you an IM when I get home and get online. Oh can someone also recommend me a good modeling studio? Thanks!

Easiest way- basic pose stand. Then use the camera controls to position the camera. Take picture. Edit/Crop in photoshop. Upload.

When I did mine, I had a friend who was sitting across the room from me take them. All he did was hit "Take Photo" each time I was ready, saved them (out of SL so he didn't have to pay) and send them to me.
Might not be that easy for you, but someone might be able to help you. That or use a scripted poseball that sets your camera, although I can't say I've played with them yet.

I think having someone take the photo would have to be my best bet since I can't script to save my life. I have no problem using the pose stand, take picture, fiddle in photoshop and upload--been doing it for a while. My difficulty is keeping the camera angle consistent so I can have uniform pictures . Again thanks to those who gave me useful ideas. I'll try them out once SL comes back online ^_^v

You are a mad GENIUS *dies* I mean, I always did it BY HAND and it looked just FINE, but know I WILL BE OBSESSED with doing this so its 150% perfect. Oyyyyeeeee!!

Get a posing stand, then a BijoCam kit. take pics with fixed angles. And after a few (dozen) sales, get one of those photog set thingys.

For me it's pretty simple...
I take high resolution screenshots and save them to disk. In Photoshop (the graphics program I use) I extract the image of the AV and place it in a new pic by itself. I do this with all my photos. My vendor graphics are all 512x512 so I simply resize the extracted AV image to 400 height and I get pretty close on how they all look together. Just make sure to keep the proportions when you resize. IF you do that they all will be relatively the same and look like you did it as you spoke of in your post.
Easier than trying to get it exact at the point of taking the picture.
Hope it helps,

To get the location and pose exactly the same on every shot, you can use a posing stand with an alternate animation loaded. (The modelling studio is basically an advanced posing stand with multiple animations, multiple backdrops, and a rather groovy modelled lighting rig.) Since Burke has already mentioned the BijoCam I don't have to advertise it myself

There really is no need for anything fancy especially if you cant afford the 3 k for the fancy studio. It is very kool but not necessary.
as for camera position if you look at pictures i have taken the only thing i have ever used to position the camera is the alt key and my mouse holding down alt and clicking holding on your ave allows you to move the camera with ease. It may take some practice but you will get the hang of it fairly quick. Every picture i have ever taken has been taken in this manner.
since getting a second pc i have begun taking pictures with one of my alts because it is a bit easier and you can fix the eyes of the model if so desired unlike when you are the model and the picture taker.
if you need any further help please feel free to im me if I'm on line.
