This has been bothering me for a while, and I'm just curious if I'm the only one. Have you ever formed a strong opinion of someone, good or bad, and then found yourself subconciously attributing that opinion to someone else with the same last name? I catch myself doing it occaisionally and have to remind myself that last names are meaningless in SL. I'm just curious if anyone caches themselves doing the same.

The only last name association I have found myself following into is being curious about the others with my last name.
I found another Pegler last night. Who joined a few days before me. We exchanged cards to compare expperiences in a month or so.

I did exactly that when I met Makaio. Before then, the only Stygian I had known about was Korg...yeaaaaah.

I found myself treating all Lindens like police officers. Then I met Bub.

I usually treat everyone the same, regardless of thier name... it doesn't matter to me even if they are a Linden, you have to give respect to get it.... I use to get really upset when people would always say "the Midnights" they are good people, but not related and all have thier own personality, some better than others lol I doubt it bothered them as much as it did me, but for some reason it just does... *shrugs*

Last names, or first names for that matter don't really matter but it is interesting to hear why people choose their names and yes, it does usually say something about them.
As for associating groups of people together because they happened to choose the same last name is a little silly to me. I have only met a couple of other Grace's inworld and they seem like ok peeps to me but, no offense, I don't want to be associated with someone just because we have the same last name and I assume they feel the same way about me.
Take me for who I am, and I'll do the same for you. Just because I had a bad experience with some jerk named "Insert Last Name Here* has no bearing how I will treat other *Insert Last Name Here*'s.

IRL I always thought all women named Amanda were whores, because every one I ever knew was well...a whore lol
But ya, this has nothing to do with SL, carry on...

Oh, I don't judge people by their last name, I just catch myself making an association at times and stop myself. I've seen one other Saarinen. Which does make me wonder, with a set list of last names to choose from, seeing so few duplicates, just how many accounts do LL allow to take a last name before it's retired?

There's a natural tendency to do that. It really comes out big time when people are naming their kids. One parent will suggest a name, and the other will say, "Noooooo - I knew a [insert name] once and she was awful!" C C

Some last names peg griefers cold even before I get to know anybody in "the family."

Totally by accident, I ran across a sizeable percentage of the Page clan at a birthday party to which we'd all been invited. It seems that we all knew someone who knew someone, and next thing you know, we have a Page convergence.
Just as I'd expected, we Pages are a bunch of ne'er-do-wells and hooligans.

Only names i have a stange assumtion to would be last names that you would never see IRl like Barbecue..., or Potato. I would have really been picked on in school with names like that. LOL Not that those people are weird, heck i made a alt with the last name Barbecue just for laughs.
Now for MY last name, i tend to look kindly on others using. I know of 3 other Yaffle's in SL but only 2 of them i actually talk to on occasion. I just have a problem typing it. Most the time the Y ends up being lowercase even if i'm holding shift. Stangly enough the Y in Yiffy never does that. O.o

I get an urge to ask people if they are related to others with the same name. Then i realize it's a random sorta thing and keep my mouth shut. In RL i have a strange last name and i love it cuz it's unique, but i love meetin more noodles cuz it's a rare thing.

"Midnight" always makes me think of attractive people.
Even better anyone have a negative RL assosiation with a last name carried into SL? Back in the day there were this kinda trashy family named Ingersoll who lived in my town. When ingrid chose that last name here i was like omgz gross.
