Second Life 1.9 Release - Opening Delayed until 3pm SLT During our internal testing of 1.9 we found a bug which had not been discovered during preview. The bug caused object to object emails between the maingrid and private estates to fail, which would cause vendor and other web-Second Life scripts to fail as well. Due to the nature of this bug and how it limits Second Life functionality, we immediately implemented a fix and are currently releas 5b4 ing the fix to the grid for testing. Once we have completed the internal tests on 1.9 with the new bug fix, we will reopen Second Life and let everyone back in. As this new release was unplanned, we will need to push out our original estimated open time of 12:00pm SLT three hours until 3pm SLT. Thank you for your patience, if we have any further updates, we will be sure to post them here. Posted by Jeska Linden *sighs*

EVERY time there's an update, mainitanance downtime, or otherwise, the re-opening time is ALWAYS pushed back at least 3 hours at the last minute. Why don't they just say 3 hours LATER than they expect so they dont have to do the whole "oh sorry guys, pushed back" thing EVERY TIME? (that and if by some miracle it DOES open on time, they can say "look how awesome we are, we got it back open before the predicted time " Nooch

I think they did the most professional thing they could, under the circumstances.

No it's not. The last few times, seems to me like, it has opened sooner than stated. This was an entirely unexpected thing, one we really do want them to fix before we get back on. coco

Well, I was looking forward to logging on at 8pm this evening - I even made myself do the vacuuming in my room before I allowed myself onto the computer - but frankly I'd rather see it at 11pm than have it launch, bugs found and them not being fixed until tomorrow.
*taps fingers*
So. Mm.
*twitches foot*
I did think of a good use for the camera controls though. Perhaps I can research that.
edit: bah, it won't work

What's really bad is I figured, hey! I'll use the downtime to do homework. Instead I end up surfing the forums and then hitting refresh multiple times on the front page to see if the number of people in game would suddenly increase as the scheduled time came around. Glad I gave up on that.
On the bright side, I just came up with the awesome idea of getting my laptop out and having my essay up on it, so I can do homework and surf! Go me, knew the laptop had a purpose, SL just isn't one of them.

Fantastique.

It *would* all be on the one day EVER that I had an enormous block of free time as well as unlimited access to the computer that can actually run SL. Now, by the time it's up again, ALL that free time will be completely wasted.
*Not normally given to complaining -- just in a really, REALLY bad mood today* :\
