its been almost a week now that every time I try to log in, I get half rezzed textures and cannot move or do anything more than spin in place..

I know from connecting to other MMO's and websites that it is not me or my connection.

I have been greatly enjoying second life, but its reaching the point where its just not worth it to me, as I cant play anymore!

is anyone else experiencing this?

I'm having no problems at the moment. Have you tried checking the sim stats? There you will not only get info on the sim, but indicators of your connection with SL, etc. Check the following URL:

I'm not experiencing what you currently are, but it was almost that bad for me when I first joined SL.

Some things I would recommend before you call it quits... (and I'm sure more computer-savvy people can give better advice, this is just based on my own experience.)

Make sure you have a good amount of memory. I had the miminum when I started, and figured that was enough. It wasn't, by a long shot. The more memory I added, the better SL ran and looked.

Check your broadband connection and/or network and make sure you've got some oomph. I don't know what numbers would be 'oomph' exactly, but I know that when my network says my connection is poor or low, or even good, then SL runs like an old lady with her knickers down. It's not pretty.

Make sure your video driver is up to date, and your graphics card is fairly recent. Again, being a puter tard, I won't make specific recommendations, but upgrading mine helped a LOT.

There was a time around the 1.3 or 1.4 update when I was seriously considering selling my whole business and dropping my account, because SL was unplayable for me. My friends all heard me bitch constantly about how I couldn't join them for events or get togethers because it was miserable. Now, I only really notice a slow-down from time to time, for unknown reasons, or at very large gatherings.

Tier down to basic if you're thinking of quitting, because it costs you nothing to keep the account active. If it isn't worth it to you to warrant the expense of upgrading your computer, or it's not feasible right now, then you won't be losing anything. But someday you may decide to or be able to, and you may regret not having your established account any longer. I know I would have.

Hope things work out.

I would have to say I could have posted what Jonquille did.

When I started SL my computer needed quite a number of upgrades and updates. But I KNEW that I was willing to fork out the $$ to be able to run SL decently.

my machine is only about 2 months old, Pentium R(D) 2.8ghz, 2G ram, GForce 7200 with 1G ram on board... so If its my computer than all you rich folks with multi-alpha systems must be the only folks playing...

my connection is fine as I can log into my MMORPGs just fine... as near as I can tell this is an SL only problem... I am running on a T1 connection, so it should be working great..

I will definately tier down, sell my land, then close my account....this is just way to much for me anymore...

I enjoying playing, have made many friends I will miss...but honestly I cant talk to them now anyways, so why try any more?

Linden's only repsonse was "it must be on your end".

Well if you look at the sim stats, particular stats like ping times, you should be a step closer to to discovering if it is 'your end' or not :)

after much trying and relogging I have tried high traffic sims, low traffic sims, and even an entire sim that is up for sale and contains only about 100 prims on the whole sim...

still the same problem.

Your system beats the pants off of mine on most counts, so it definitely doesn't seem to be a problem on your end. I wish I had more tech-savvy advide to give you, but if it weren't for my hubby I'd probably still be playing Summer Games on the C64 and thinking that was the height of computer technology. ;)

I do hope things work out better for you. It really sucks to discover something with SO much potential, have is become one disappointment after another, and be told by others that it's your problem.

As Hiro mentioned in this thread, SIM stats do make a huge difference, so hopefully a change of location, if you're up to such a thing, will make a difference. It just seems a shame to lose a passionate resident due to bad performance.

Edit: Having read your latest reply, it seems changing sims doesn't help either. That really does suck.

But did you take a look at that link I gave you? And checked the ping times to get closer to understanding what is causing the problem?

If the sim is running at full FPS, and others are not experiencing 'lag', then what LL have told you is right. You just need to figure out whether it is a result of your connection, in-game settings, or perhaps something not so obvious. But you first need to take a look at the ping times, etc.

Also, make sure you have all the latest drivers installed, and that you are not running too many things at once. It may also be worth wiping the client altogether and reinstalling.
