I know I should know this but having a senior moment! LOL!

If I buy a house which is made up of several parts, i.e., 3 sections, once I place it down where I want it, is there a way of locking it down so that I do not accidently delete a portion or all of it. If I can, then can I unlock it to make changes or take it back up to use someplace else?

Go to the object tab in edit mode and check 'lock'.

On tab 2 of the edit screen, the page that shows all the numbers for the prim params, there is a "lock" check box, just above the physics and temp_on_rez check boxes.

Thanks

Now once I lock the sections, that means I can not make any changes or delete the house correct?

Correct... sorta...

You can still select it, but you can't edit/change anything without first unlocking it.

I think you can still delete it though.

That is what I want to stop....lol I have deleted the same house by accidently 4 times already, I am ready to go with a single section house. At least that way I can put it back down and move it until things line back up again. LOL Either that or move into a tent...:)

Rez a prim, set the "lock", take into your inventry.

Rez the locked prim from inventry, right click it, press "del" key.

Does the prim instantly delete? or does it give you the "This object is locked, do you realy want to delete it?" pop up box that you sometimes get when deleting other users junk from your land?

Simple test really.

Good luck.

George, locking the house will do the trick. You will get a pop-up if you accidentally try to delete your house. And you will not be able to inadvertantly move it or resize. This is a very common problem. I do a lot of building on the flat roof of my home and I have locked all of the prim that make up the roof surface. This makes it safer for me to work up there. Good luck :)

Hi Persephone!

Thanks a bunch! It seems almost everytime I try to move, take, or delete items inside the house I inadvertently click the wrong place and take or delete and poof there goes the house. I really appreciate your input! Very nice AV by the way....smile!

And yes, you can unlock it again, whenever you want to work on it or move it.

coco

P.S. My problem was forgetting I had locked it, then trying to do something with it and thinking something was wrong with the game, cause it wouldn't do anything! So don't forget you may have locked something.

George, i have a script somewhere that remembers where you put the pieces, ill look for you inworld, but basically, once this is activated, when you place the object down, it will snap to the location you want it.

Thanks George :)

By the way, don't feel to bad about accidentally deleting your house ... I have done the same kind of thing too many times to count. And don't forget that anything you delete can be found in your inventory Trash folder. I just wish there was an easy way to "undelete" an object from the world. This would save us all from some heartache and grief.
