I have been searching "yard sales' and second hand stores and i have decided upon looking at them I would put together a list, which will take me some time, of all the so "Top name" furniture stores and a basic outline of clothing that i mainly see at these stores. I will also alert you to certain places, events that you will be either ripped off or scammed. I have seen everything from freebies to 100% markup on items that have the name "yard sale" which implies discount. Has been anything but! I have seen recreations of others work, Objects textured in stolen textures, clothing that should never be for sale! selling Fakes ex ex

same old story right

well hoping this will help make yard sales back to what they should be and once were. Help Stop some of the scammers and frauds. I cannot do it here, but in world I will expose names and list the exact incident. I do always make attempt to speak with the person in question first but if i have no result they should know Others will be told.

SL won't police things, and I can't take it anymore so I am doing what I can myself.

Be warned scammers, I have several "watch" av's and people willing to help out as well.

All things will be looked into closely before placing your name on this list and your place of dealings, but be aware that an out right scam, texture stealing and selling, fake clothes, will be reported right away. Not only will we be reporting you CONSTANTLY but we will also be making this list naming you, what you are doing, a picture will back it on my new wall of shame, and updating it constantly!

So before you scam and think you will be scott free.....Think again

Um this is a nice idea , on the part of recreations of others work tho..well I am not defending anyone here but would like to point out there are 323,407  residents in SL and I am sure more then ONE of us has had the same idea for a object, or clothing style.

I know I myself if I chose to sell a piece of clothing from my inventory because I no longer desire it I mark it at a FRACTION of what I paid for it ...ex: 300 Linden outfit is now 159 Lindens :D .

But yes I agree , keep the free stuff free and the one linden items a single linden, when in doubt , give money to the noob tree that you get off of those stuff.. :o

I too have seen people mark noob free stuff as like 10 lindens , 5 lindens , 100 lindens, it is a rip off , just as ive heard the stories of people scamming the noobs out of their 250 starter money... and to those people I shake my finger and say be ashamed of yourself !!

i found someone selling an item made by a friend of mine which they somehow got a full perms version of. i also sell a simmilar item, and this yardsale was using a picture grabbed off one of my old vendors, and was containing the stolen item created by my friend. i found it because someone said "zomg they're selling your thing at this yardsale, and i know you never made it a freebie!". better still, the item in question was mainly anims, and mine(as seen in vendor pic) were different from the ones used in the item they were selling from it. :D

they could have at least stolen a newer vendor pic. they just had to use the old ugleh one :(

Don't forget yard sales that have no second hand items and are just an excuse to advertise a store or put your own stuff on a yard and sell it.

Just to be clear, it is deemed acceptable to sell inventory items made by someone else if we are selling them for less than the origional purchase price right? And I mean like a $200L outfit for $50L? Just like you would do in a RL yard sale. I know it is preferable to the creator for people to buy from them directly but it seems an awful waste to just delete all that unwanted inventory.

No Let me give you a few examples of what i mean by scams

Clothing placed in boxes that look like they are a well known name's outfit, turning out not to be

clothing made by a well known artist, and duplicated as an "nobody" or another name.

Furniture that was made the exact same and same textures as another popular object. (Some textures are unique and created by the original furniture maker) This one is not always a "scam" but its a reproduction and not very nice.

things of that nature. Now as you do have every right to sell anything you bought at any price you want, I also reserve the right to just give people some education and a refer chart to what they can buy it for in the store.
that would not fall into "scam" but it will be under my alert you are being ripped off
the word "Yard Sale" sends people looking to SAVE the Linden dollar running but what I have come into a lot lately in my travels from sale to sale, has been they are saving very little if not paying double. Or they think they are buying soemthing they simply are not. It is sad, its is mean and it has got on my last nerve.

Just a quick kinda funny story..the other night I was out hitting some yard sales and came across one that was selling a free item for 10 Lindens that I had gotten at another place for free..the funny part of it was..the item was named Free such in such and the description even said..free item. paying 10L to me is not free..paying 0 lindens is free. Some people need to stop and think before they do things. I have seen even the Linden furniture that you get free when you start up for sale at some of the yard sales. If you didn't pay for it, don't sell it is my motto.

It's so funny this post just came up after the one I did this morning

/108/69/120136/1.html

I can't go to any yard sale anymore without seeing an item that is mine. I screwed up on permissions when I first started. My thinking then was give them more for their money. I didn't realize that there were jerks in SL that profit off of your kindness by selling your items as copies as well as your freebies. In fact, I'm sure you've SEEN some of my items, I sell alot of dance tables and lap dance chairs, as well as my first two bedroom sets. One is chrome with blue dots, the other is gold with black bedding. And I found it HILLARIOUS, how many idiots sold it in it's original box that actually said, "FREE FROM ADDISON'S DESIGNS!" How stupid can you be? I will GLADLY help out in anway that I can. I've been to so many yard sales now trying to put an end, but it just never stops.

"If you didn't pay for you it, you shouldn't profit from it" is a great motto! I mark my boxes all 1$ for freebies, mearly to keep track of who's buying now a days, I have a script in it that will only let you buy 1 box, but this way..I can see who's buying it then who's selling it :D

Ty Addison I appreciate the help! I myself have seen your things through out. Very sorry. I think relying on SL to stop it is more then useless here. I think education is about the only hope

Exactly. I've asked live help several times, in some weird but unfair way, they are not breaking anything in the TOS...more or less just taking away from other people and their hard work on items. I think the most shocking one time, was finding an SL mentor who was selling ALL of my items, and other freebies in SL WAYYY above price. When I confronted her, she "claimed" that she thought when it was marked resell/giveaway...that she was in her rights to resell the items. I thought that comment should make SL's top 10 of stupidity. I'm gearing up to have a yard sale of my own this weekend hopefully and I guarantee everything will be items that SHOULD be in a yard sale. Not some fake store or copies of items. Again, anything I can do..name the names I have or anything, just let me know. I'd love to put those people in their place and let other designers know who's ripping off who.

Holy bloody hell I dont even wanna know how someone jips a texture.

I know ive brought some textures into the gamea and people have wanted them but I dont give them up. Heck I spent my lindens bringing them in game , why would you just give those away ?

As for design of furniture I am sure you can see what I am saying. :)

I give freebies and 1 linden items I got in game when I first joined to others who are new and just starting off, outfits , skins , direct them to hair sales , gnubie store ect..Heck Ive been known to give noobs 20 Lindens before sending them off on their way to places they should check out so they dont arrive there broke, but that is just me. :o

I just dont think I even want to know what people are thinking when they pull the stuff you replied back with... .

Hey shane!

I agree 100% with you. There is a lot of scamming period and LL isn't going to do anything about it, so its up to us to inform others and make people aware of it. My response was to set up a blog and a group in world for people to stay informed, and help inform both merchants and shoppers of scams and such. If you are going to compile a list of scams for yardsales, I'd love to get a copy of that inworld so I can put it up at our headquarters and share that information with the group. I myself did some digging into yardsales and discovered much of the unfortunate truth as you did. If you are curious, you can read about my experience here.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
