I'm looking at making a .raw terrain file for a sim and was wondering if anyone had one that they wouldn't mind sharing? Just so I can get my head around what a completed one looks like. I like to learn by example ;)

Any Lindens listening? How about one or more from you that we can download? Perhaps the ones from the four choices we have for default private sims...

I would imagine Terragen would generate an acceptable file. It's free. Easy to use. And you can make renders to get a sense of what it might look like. I'd ask the Lindens if the files are compatible. Here's the link to the app: http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/

Terragen is cool for testing the greyscale heightmaps, but does not generate its own .RAW files, as far as I've figured out. I prefer to use Photoshop even for the heightmap editing because there's much finer control that way. I was going to post a sample .RAW for you, but then I realised there's no forum attachments any longer, so I can't.

Terragen actualy can export RAW files (I've done it) but I'm not sure that they're the correct format for SL (8-bit vs 16 bit). There is also data you can put in other channels of the file that is SL specific, like deviding the land into plots.

SL streams a world, can you also stream a mind?

This is what I have figured:

Terragen is cool, although can not genrate nor import SL .raw files.
Terragen can be used for testing by importing the height (red) layer.

What I am looking for is an example SL compatable .raw file, preferably one that has actually been uploaded.

Since there are no more forum attachments, anyone wishing to share one may send it to my email addy at vixen.d@gmail.com

Thanks.
