I see a lot of message traffic going back and forth on a large number of topics in the forum, some with just short one or two word comments. Is or has anyone thought of a Second Life Chat program where we could do this outside of the forum and outside of being in-world? Something like Yahoo Messenger, MSN, ICQ, or AOL but strictly for SLer's.

Because its not possible to send an IM to a player from the outside unless its as a reply to an offline message first, this (using AIM, Yahoo, or Trillian to comm w/SL) is nearly impossible using the tools we have today.
However - Max Case has put together a cool tool that can be integrated into a website to send messages into SL. You can see it in action here: http://www.maxcase.info/ I'm pretty sure Max provides the tool free, or nearly free. _____________________
