I think I'm setting myself up to be bashed here but I think this is an important topic and I am still really new to second life and am not fully aware of all the rules yet.
I've had such a wonderful time here on second life by the way and I want to stress most of the people in second life are very kind and friendly.
I wear "silks" when I go out because I am a Gorean slave. I don't normally speak first person either. I spend on the average of 25-35- us dollars a week on hair and omg I sooo love the skin and I do buy clubwear as well.
anyway, today I was looking at hair. I love to try on the demos and stuff it's a lot of fun. I think my comp may be a little slow because I have to get right up on the pictures to see th hair so I normally hover around as I look. today out of no where this guy started getting really close to me and then bumping into me he was knocking me all around the shop so I landed and he landed and kept running into to me so I Teleported back home.
Are people allowed to do that? What can a person who is getting harrassed like that do about it? I was in a mature SIM and quite frankly I was being respectful staying out of peoples way and just looking. I'm just not sure what the rules are.

Didn't a box pop up asking if you wanted to report the guy? It should of. Next time it happens report the jerk. More than likely a kid on the main grid again. Cat

you need to file an abuse report.. if he wasn't rezzed the Linden wont do anything, but next time, do file abuse (or do like me and use a sit to make yourself unmovable)

Welcome to SL Elli:
Playing devils advocate for the guy, he *may* not have seen you. Many time I've experienced folks having rezzing issues just walking right into me -- because they don't see me yet -- and pushing me across the floor. When this happens, I just sort of hollar "hey hey hey you!" and get an immediate apology and explanation.
On the flip side, I've also seen folks intentionally bump into slaves (particularly if they're kneeling down on the floor) as a complete sign of disrespect.
I'm hoping for you the situation was the former and not the latter.
Cheers!

I honestly didn't even think of the rezzing possibility and I have to tell you it makes me feel sooo much better... no box popped up on it so maybe it was that. thanks soo much for answering the thread.

From: Martin Magpie Didn't a box pop up asking if you wanted to report the guy? With the exception of one instance a long, long time ago, this box never pops up for me and I have had a number of odd skirmishes in my time. Maybe someone just thinks I need a good whuppin'.

Maybe someone just thinks I need a good whuppin'. I believe this is a box that only pops up for newbies. If you wipe your SL installation and start fresh so that SL thinks you're a new install, you start getting all the annoying 'helpful' dialogs again. They stop popping up after a week or two, but you can still go to Help->View PvP Abuse which brings up the same box.

If you hold the space bar it should hold you in place

No hun, if it happened repeatedly like you described it probably wasn't accidental. I've been the victim of intentional bumping and Xcite molestation several times in the past couple of weeks. I'm not a Gorean, but I do wear silks on occasion, and/or a collar. Also, in only one case did my abuser ever actually say anything. It was a few days ago and he said out loud, to his friends: "Ooh, look there's a Gorean and her master," and he started molesting me. Usually they're silent, but they go after you so aggressively that it's obviously intentional. I didn't know about the abuse report thingy (or the policies about bumping) and I will certainly report next time it happens. (Also, I'm much more careful about when and where I equip my Xcite bits.)

As others have said, Abuse Report the person if it happens more than once or twice when they first arrive.
A simple solution if you want to remain and shop is to sit on anything, including the floor, and use the camera controls to look around. When seated, you cannot be bumped around.
There are also shield devices you can buy that will hold you in place when bumped.

I've never had an issue with bumping, but I've done the whole trying on different outfits in a locked house only to find someone smack up against the house "peeking in" thing. Also a bit disturbing.

In that vein, Amber, don't you just love the new camera zoom distances?
There's no privacy any longer unless you are wayyyy up in a sky box. I discovered that you can be in one corner of a sim and zoom your camera just about anywhere else in the entire sim. I hate this feature. At least before, you could be fairly assured of privacy if the green dots were a distance away. Now, you can't be sure of anything!!

Anjaleka, i thought you could only do that in a sim you own.

I was able to do it in the sim of Glorious Ar and I don't own it. I haven't tried it in any other sims, however.

That is strange, i know i can't zoom out that much, was looking at a build yesterday and had to walk around to see everything. That was on a private sim. :/

I have heard people talking about this but I simply don't understand how this is supposed to work. I can never zoom my camera in beyond my body. I can zoom back really far, but if I want to see something in front of me up close I have to walk to it. The camera just plain stops zooming when it reaches where I'm standing. I'd really like to do it for when my girlfriends are modeling for snapshots. As it is, I have to stand real close and then do some serious cropping later on.

Hold the ALT key, click and hold on something - it will become the center of the camer'as focus. While still holding the mouse button and ALT key, move the mouse around. You can zoom in close, out far and orbit the subject now.
