Allow other residents to: have physical objects

Hi All,

We are all rather hung up on being pushed by griefer objects and the general trend is that LL will develop tools to disallow this. Perhaps this is the wrong approach! Pushing is part of the physics engine (Havok) and there will be a heap of problems in altering just this aspect of Havok and then doing this again for the next version of Havok.

What I propose is an additional checkbox in the "About Land/Options" page where the question would be:

Allow other residents to: have physical objects

Any objects coming onto your land would be set non physical and the bulk of our problems would be over?

Would be a lot easier to program! What do you think would be the side effects?

That actually sounds a lot like whats in the works, i.e. turning off physics on a parcelwide or estate wide basis.

Enabling
this
one
single
change

would stop 75% of greifing as we know it.

What about the people flying and driving around? This would be even harder to do if this was implemented.

Edit: Tsu, where did you hear that it was in the works?

Ah, my bad, "supposed" to be in the works, as in the new anti greifer tools. Its too obvious to not have :/

That, and with the rumor mill going at full tilt, this gets brought up a lot.

My favorite one, with the promise of land options being able to be set via script:
The Landowners Anti-greifing Gun (LAG)

1) Fire Gun
2) Bullet locks onto avatar.
3) and swtches parcel to damage enabled..
4) Kills the target (sending them home)
5) and changes the parcel back
6) extra points if it bans the targetted avatar during all this

Haha, that's great! Is there an option to change to damage currently?

Just complements the situation with the no scripting ban on non - physical objects.

These bans only need too apply to the same height as the general ban lines, may be only to 100 M?

With no scripting, no physical, no building, and no avatar access below the ban line height, may be no need to have different programming for the two sets of ban lines. Just need to stop the sliding in of non physical objects.

Vehicle scripts still work on no script land. :D

I think you can continue them but you can't start them. Both physical and scripting would need to be treated similarly to stop griefers, so neither should be able to be continued on a parcel banning them, but the heights should be no more than 50 or so above ground level.

I guess that makes it a lot more difficult to program for LL! So maybe in a couple of years . . . . . . .
