I have decided to have a yard sale with all of the items that I no longer use. It's funny how your tastes can change after awhile. Since I have never done this before, I have a couple of questions that I wanted opinions on.

I was wondering how I can go about doing this as I have never boxed anything up to sell before hehe. I was going to just take pics of me wearing the item, put the texture on a box and set it for sale because I don't want a vendor or anything. Is that how I should do it? How do they take it if it isn't copyable?

I also wondered how I should price things. Short of going to each store (if still around, and that would take many many hours) and seeing what I paid, I just will price things as to what I think is fair. I'm not trying to make a million dollars or anything, just after some spending $. I remember more what I spend on skins than anything else but how do I know if I spent $50 on a shirt or $150.

I think I will have a note inside each box letting the buyer know that it is a Yard Sale and that I did not make any of the items (because I don't want anyone thinking that I'm saying I made the items), and will also let the buyer know that if they should happen to find the same thing they bought from me for cheaper at the store, that I will be glad to give back the difference.

On a side note: I must say how disappointed I am that almost 60% of what I wanted to get rid of is no transfer :( I have over $40k in skin sets alone that are gathering dust in my inventory and will be deleted because I can't do anything with them. To think of the people who would have loved these plus the clothing, hair etc that I cannot sell or give away is pretty sad. I really hate to delete them but have no choice in the matter as I am making my inventory user friendly again.

I will have clothing, shoes, hair and skin for sale and will make a post when things are set up. :)

From what I hear, there is a 4500% markup on some of my items at yard sales.

(translated: some of my $L 1 items are selling at yard sales for $L 45 :))

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Just put a note for the *customers* to check with the original seller, and if it's still for sale for less you'll match half the going price.

This is a hot button issue for some (the reselling of their products at higher than purchase price). Your solution of refunding the difference seems like a decent work around.

In answer to your other question, you make a box, texture it with the picture of the item, put the item in the box, set it to sell, and check the "original" option.

"Original" will sell the box or object itself and its contents. Use this option to sell items that can be resold but cannot be copied.

"Copy" will sell a copy of the box or object, including contents. This should only work if the items inside it are all copiable.

"Contents" will sell a copy of all the items inside the box, which will be placed in a folder in the buyer's inventory, so they don't need to unpack anything. Again, this should only work if the items inside are all copiable.

That's the basics of how it works anyway.

one thing I would suggest to save you upload fees for pics your planing on takeing with the clothes your selling being worn is if you have a graphics program such as photoshop or paint shop take the pics of the clothing being worn then snapshot to disk.
Once you have all the pics of the clothes open up your graphics program and do the following...
1. open up your pics in the program
2. get the hieght and width setting of the pics you took ie. 256X256
3. make a new file with the same hieght setting but make the width setting to be able to hold 4-5 pics ie 1024X256 or 1280X256
4. select one of your pics then select all and cut
5. go to the new file and paste the pic use the postioning tool to move the pic to one of the corners
6. select the next pic then repeat step #4 and #5 except lign the new pic adjascent to the previous
7. Repeat steps 4-6 untill the newfile is filled then save as .jpeg with a name like "clothes1"
8. repeat steps 1-7 untill all the pics of clothes you are wanting to sell are all on images like this
9. Start SL :) then start uploading the new pics you just made
10. Rez number of boxes you need to add the clothes to for each pic ie.. if you got 4 outfits on 1 image then rez 4 boxes and adjust them to a viewable display size I suggest 1m X 1M
11. Apply the image to each box then click edit then go to the texture tab
12. find the repeat per face section and adjust the size of the pic hint the lower the number will make it larger and thats what you want (both horizontal and verticle)
13. As soon as you have a good viewable setting of the pic use the offset horizzontal to adjust the image so just 1 of the outfits is seen on the front of the prim you may need to adjust the verticle to achieve this as well
14. Place the outfit that is shown on the prim inside the prim set it for sale
15. Repeat steps 12-14 untill all your outfits you are selling are properly boxed and ready for sale.

I know it sounds like alot of work but it will save you money in the end this way you can have pics of 4-5 outfits for just 1 upload charge L$10 Vs L$40-50
