I'm not trying to be a b*tch, but it's getting more and more rediculous at the welcome areas, so.. as a concerned resident of almost a year of sitting back and observing things getting worse and worse and more vulgar at the welcome areas, i propose a poll. I have been trying the best i can, and i'm sure other mentors/instructors/live helpers etc. have been as well to calm these places down, or resolve conflicts etc. before Linden action is needed. But its too much. Not trying to nag, just concerned for SL's future. I Believe something is needed to get done about this nonsense. Maybe more Lindens around these problem areas. i'm running out of ideas. Before anyone flames this post, i'm in no way shape or form trying to put anyone down, i'm just very concerned.

I'd also suggest WA's as a permanent "no-push" zone.

I barely visit the WA anymore so whats going on? the same thing that happens everywhere else? (pushing?). The reason i don't go there is cuz its in the middle of 4 sim borders. It makes it impossible to walk around without being dragged underground.

I have been hanging out in the WA for almost 3 years lol, all my friends are there and i like to help and meet new people, I agree with you Onna it's the worst i have ever seen it, almost on a daily basis i am getting harassed called names pushed not only by griefers but a specific group who all they do is harass newbies and the regulars there and badmouth second life and the lindens, My friends and I on a daily basis file reports on these people and a slap on the hand is all they get..this is a problem. I am sure if i was a newbie just starting out in SL and i was being harassed i would leave SL as fast as i signed up. There should be a linden to babysit them, LOL it's silly i know but something needs to be done, if you don't like second life leave is what i tell them. so that's my 2 cents lol

Also, it's not just 'the' welcome area, it's the other, lesser known ones too. I signed up an alt and ended up in the Linden Chateau. It would be a quiet, peaceful, winter cottage, if it weren't for the fact that people are constantly fighting with insane amounts of land mines and giant guns.

Ahern is a hellhole though. I was really surprised they based the new WA on Ahern. It just seems designed for chaos...to dump newcomers right in the centre...in the most open, outdoor part, where people are most likely to (and do) congregate. Even today, it often feels intimidating within seconds of arrival. I remember arriving at Waterhead and seeing more experienced users in crazy Avs, dancing and generally having fun outside...so I just hung around indoors by the telehub ...gently aiming questions at mentors and greeters...getting accustomed to the new environment before venturing into the slightly intimidating crowd outside. It was nice to have that "buffer" option...so unwittingly provided by the design of the place. Edit: Forgot to add: When Waterhead *does* get out of control and a Linden arrives...it's amazing how tranquil and well behaved the place becomes...just by their very presence.

It's not just the welcome areas.. it's all Linden Lands. I went to the Chalet for a day, just to explore the area.. got caged and spent a lot of time explaining to people who had just arrived in the game and were also exploring how to get out of the cages. I AR'd but at the end of it, I had to yelp for help on the Live Help, since too many newbies got caught up this stupidity.
The first thing that shows up in the Search, before you even put in a 'item to find', is the Sandboxes.. which, having sat on a prim in Sandbox Island for hours on end, it's a war zone and mess.
I realize that the Linden Liasons are waaaayyy overworked now. The griefing is nearly impossible to prevent. If the Lindens do get the disable push on estates or even just the land tools, I hope they turn it off for most of the areas they own.

For the past 6 mos and especially recently with the lack of acct verification, the WA has not been a fun time for me. I used to go there quite a bit and have made some great friends there, but lately all it seems to be is a lag ridden alt flowing attention whore getting arena. I liked to go there to see friends, help new people and just people watch. Now I barely go because I don't feel like being harassed or getting shot or watching others get harassed. I've had to mute more people in the past few months than I have in a year and a half.
I used to stick up for the WA but now I dunno. I think it's pretty much gone to hell in a prim handbasket...

From: Phedre Aquitaine I'd also suggest WA's as a permanent "no-push" zone. I do think that is a wonderful idea, but yes i also agree that it should be for all or most Linden lands, and it would make the Liasons jobs so much easier. I would hate to be a Liason at this moment, unless there was something like that, i can't imagine how they feel right now with the amount of AR's.. everywhere i go..not just the welcome areas (altho thats where i see it the most) I hear at least three or more people say "I'M REPOTING!" "AR AR AR!" I personally have this undieing love for SL, and it almost made me cry when i saw that in places where we should be hearing "Hi there! Welcome to Second Life ".. and all i heard was things about abuse, people leaving, and sometimes, it even gets personal for some.

maybe even just some decoys, if not the real Lindens, like a macro.. convincing tho, just a thought might not work, since people would notice the "linden" wasnt replying to anyone, but it could be coded to reply to vulgarities, like cussing with something like: "HEY! keep it PG please." or something like that.. just a thought. it might help with some of the "noob" griefers.and maybe even alert the lindens if the macro has to respond a lot.

I know some real Lindens who rarely if ever reply to people. Of course even Lee sometimes brakes the silence with a "Thou shalt not..." proclamation... Hrm... actually, I have a script that can do that... I wonder... Next time I see Lee, I'm going to right-click him and check the creator...

I have to admit.. I went to the Chalet to listen to Lawrence chat about the economics on the repeater and well, it was the first time I had visited there without any griefing going on. Coincidence? The few that came through heard the 'voices' and decided to part the area, probably headed up the mountains Decoys might work, for the first two minutes. What we need is for the Lindens to be able to actually remote monitor their lands and to be able to send a nice little 'message' to cut it out or get booted and to actually be able to follow through on the threat.

Yes, they are out of control

I have been in SL for just a couple of months and did not like the WA's at all. I found them to be a real turnoff because of the rude behavior. I am happy to have found my way past them...but how many people don't find their way past them. It is a shame.
