Group forum policy changes

Greetings,

I just wanted to communicate we're changing our policy for group forums in a couple weeks. Effective July 24, 2006, groups will need at least 30 members (changed from 20) to qualify for a dedicated group forum. The current policy will be updated in the forum Guidelines.

In addition, to ameliorate forum loading speed, including when doing administration, the Archived Group Forums will be deleted. Any present and future groups which haven't had any activity in 2 months will also be deleted due to lack of usage, without additional notice. If you'd like to retain your forum, just keep using it productively.

Please feel free to save any worthwhile posts before we tidy things up.

I have a feeling there will some desire by some people to preserve the old group forum posts.

The leftist liberals and lunatics forum comes to mind.

Seems to me there should be be some way for LL to provide the posts to the group's founder or current leader or other interested parties.

Groups need to have permanent record keeping ability.

I would hope that there will be a means for anyone to download them elsewhere before they disappear. Seeing as how the lunatics and leftists fracture, splinter and bicker - let anyone obtain them.

In some case these old posts are a part of SL history; they may the only traces of old members.

I think the real lesson is that people would be wise to use something other than the SL forums as group forums. LL is concerned with 3D stuff and doesn't want to pay for storing 2D stuff at all or cor upgrading to better forum software.

Also to note the new requirement for getting a group forum. What could have changed about the nature of groups and forums that would make the current requirement of 20 members change to 30 members? It wasn't too long ago that the requirement was ten members to get a group forum.
