Ok...here's the story...

I was up working late the other night, trying to repair the damage of having my entire store returned to my lost and found folder. We all know what the deal is there, and that poor horse has been flogged into burgers and glue already.

While I haven't been on the grid for very long, I am no stranger to online gaming. (note: I see this as more of a sim than a game, but, whatever.) Anyone who has played a game online knows that, from time to time, there will be bugs. When you are playing for stats, a bug that causes some hack to kill you over and over with no retribution can make one froth. Eventually, however, a patch will be released to fix said bug. Hack is exposed for what they are, usually after already having been banned for violating a general rule of honesty, making everything in the world shiny and happy for all the little gamesters.

Regarding SL, however, the patch issue has me pondering something far greater than a kill count on a stats page...the stake of RL, hard earned dollars and cents.

So, here I am. It's super late. I'm tired. I have a few more prims to come up with, in order to finish off building a new store for my now barren land. ****CRAAAAASSSSSSHHHHH****

Even being a relative newcomer, I was far from surprised to have experienced yet another session ending knot. After going to the website to check status, I started cruising around the site, checking out some of the new stuff, and this eventually led me to the "events" section. As I began scrolling down the list of events for the night (morning), I couldn't help but wonder......

(Disclaimer: The statement you are about to read may be considered by some to be a so-called "can of worms". It is not intended to be wormy in the slightest.)

I personally have already tied up a good deal of RL dollars in this primative VR world, and, judging by what I have seen in my travels already, there are others who have a LOT riding on this endeavor. Business, rentals, etc. All with a RL monetary stake in this microcosm. I have heard statements made in recent memory by the Lindens that they consider any disruption to the business of SL residents as a matter of ultimate seriousness. (griefers turned into the authorities for disruption, etc.)

So, here is the crux of the biscut, if you will: If LL takes it's SL resident's business so seriously, what is being done to make up for revenue lost during the 6 1/2 hours of fix time? If LL is willing to take steps as bold as to involve RL authorities in attempting to make a party, or parties, own up to their actions and take responsibility for a business person losing money, why are they not able to turn that same focus inward? Can LL, having already taken the blame for disrupting the grid over their own hurried release, hold themselves to the same standards that are expected of their residents?

I would venture to say that, if LL had as much of a RL dollar value at stake, they would take a lot more painstaking of an effort in developing this virtua-firma into the mammoth it could be. After seeing the shear number of events that would have to be cancelled or rescheduled, I wonder who is going to make it up to the residents who may have been hurt by this belch in the system?

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Ok, Hank, so that is the standard fix!

To clarify, I personally didn't lose any revenue over this affair. Just a few hairs and a bit of pride. Just thinking out loud, wondering if anyone else is thinking the same.

Ya a course were all thinking it, and have been very verbal about it, hopefully the Lindens will take some of our "suggestions" to heart and make some positive changes for the better...

Argghhh i have to go over to the mall now and use what little time after working all day in real...to clean up all the goodies our "unvarified" friends have left us today...*sigh* yes i think sometimes the Lindens are a bit too detached from our problems to realize what a pain in the patoot some of the recent changes do to us SLians...

ok ok give me one a them tiny violins too dammit..i know im whiny

Of course. And there was a big squelch then. They should never have done it.

Set a terrible precedent.
