Hi, I got a question about camping. By the way I'm a new player. OK so I camped to get money, but after 30 minute sit logged me out for inactivity. I don't know what the rules are about camping (like how long you can camp, etc) but wit the idle problem, I was told this is one of the better ways to get money fast (so I can experience the world.) But how can I camp if I keep getting kicked out every 30 minutes? What if I want to just camp for the day while I'm at work and then explore when I get home. is this option allowed? Or do you have to be a paying member to camp forever? Here's the real reason I ask. I'm thinking about getting a membrship and using the land to make a library and seeing how it cost $10 a pop to upload anything, it's going to get a bit expensive so this is another reason. But is there a way to transfer cash or a donation and get SL money in return? Sorry for the noob questions.

The rules are entirely up to the person who made the camping chair. SL's world is made almost entirely by the people playing in it. There are several progames out there then will do things like tweak the mouse or send a "return" to SL to keep you fom being logged out. I'm sure if you ask around the campers (assuming any are actually there) they can point you to good places to get these programs. (or someone will be by to post same in this thread). Personally, I think dropping some modest amount on the LindeX would serve you better. A couple of dollars to get a taste. Or, forget the L$ alltogether for a bit and wander about looking for free fun. Plenty of it to be had. Get a feel for how to make L$... and if you do get a premium, that's L$500 a week. That should cover most of your uploads.

If you want to buy L$, use the button in the top right corner of your screen next to the clock.
There is a 30 minute inactivity timeout.... and if people are camping for more than 30 minutes, they are either there and moving the mouse themselves, or cheating.
As a 'premium member', you get L$500 a week instead of the L$50 a week on your free account, which will help too.
Don't bother with camping.... its a waste of time and a drain on resources. Plus if you're overriding the timeout and cheating, you risk having action taken against your account if caught. It's never worth the bother or risk.
Welcome anyway!

I tried camping once. I got Soooooo BORED!!!! What's the point of sitting in one spot just to make a few measly L$?? Instead I went & bought the maximum amount of L$ for a whole whopping, sky high amount of.......*drum roll*............................ ............................................................. $7.42!! About the cost of a pack of cigarettes. Ok, maybe a bit more, but still...... That's pretty damn cheap. Even my unemployed ass could afford it.

you can use the forum seach to find how to defeat the inactivity timeout with an outside program.
the inactivity timeout is not the only problem with prolognged camping. some places track how long you have been sitting and make you stand up. if you don't stand up your get bumped out and don't get paid for the time you were there.
i think you can defeat the timeout system by arranging to get certain kinds of messages, such as an election notice from a group. that happened to me at lunch today, i failed to log out at the end of lunch and when i got home from work i was still alive with an voting proposal from a group waiting for an answer.
A few real dollars spent acquiring Lindens is so much easier and faster than camping is.
About your library, you may find that the stuff you want to put in your library already exists in-world and might be buyable in-world for less than the cost of uploading it yourself.

You don't sit at the screen watching nothing happen. you have another program running, spending your time doing that, switch to SL every so often and press a key. or you can use programs to keep SL from timing out while it sits in the background, or set a big bolt on the tab key or such. if you have alts and a fast computer you can keep alts in camp chairs while your real avatar is partying or scripting ow whatnot. the idea of vast wealth for no work is amusing to think about, but for most folks, your idea of buying the L bucks is the way to go if you just want to to spend for fun or have a business idea that needs capitilization fast. some make a game of not ever buying any lindens and making money by "leveling up" SL fashion - learning to build, script, texture, animate, trade, landlord, etc. well enough to make a profit.

Lewis Then why even bothing having camping in the first pace if you know people are going to cheat? From: Jillian Callahan The rules are entirely up to the person who made the camping chair. I didn't seen an option when I first clicked on it.

From: Tandoku Takashi Then why even bothing having camping in the first pace if you know people are going to cheat? Camping chairs and dance pads are not part of the actual game - they are a user created content. The real reason for their existance is that clubs pay you to sit your avatar on their land, to artificially boost how popular they look by the amount of traffic they get - even though 95% of that traffic may well be just zombies sitting in camping chairs for hours on end. I personally will not visit or support any property in game that uses them - but that's purely my choice. Lewis

When it comes to text - there is no upload. SL's notecards don't have formatting save for inserting other items like objexts and texutres as links. They won't cost a single L$ to create, just copy-n-paste (ctrl-c, ctrl-v) your text into a new notecard.

I figured since you probably need one to make an updated account...

LindeX charges against whatever you have set up to handle your other fees (land tier, premium account charges and the like) - have a gander here. I belive it's credit card or PayPal.

From: Lewis Nerd If you want to buy L$, use the button in the top right corner of your screen next to the clock. Good advice. From: Lewis Nerd There is a 30 minute inactivity timeout.... and if people are camping for more than 30 minutes, they are either there and moving the mouse themselves, or cheating. Lewis is using the word cheating as his opinion. There are no written rules that you are breaking by camping for more than 30 minutes. From: Lewis Nerd As a 'premium member', you get L$500 a week instead of the L$50 a week on your free account, which will help too. Correct From: Lewis Nerd Don't bother with camping.... its a waste of time and a drain on resources. Plus if you're overriding the timeout and cheating, you risk having action taken against your account if caught. It's never worth the bother or risk. Camping is very controversial, especially with older players. Whether it is a waste of time is a decision only you can make. Saying that overriding the 30 minute timeout could cause an action to be taken against your account is completely wishful thinking on the part of Lewis. I challenge Lewis to present exactly where in the Terms of Service we specifically cannot override the 30 second timeout using an external program, or anywhere in the police blotter where an action has been taken against a resident for doing so. There are better ways to get money in SL than camping, but don't let others bully you into not trying it if that's what you want.

There are some places that pay to be in a store, if you go to the store to shop and the camera lets you see what you want I sure don't see why anyone should have any gripes about picking up the stray linden or too.

Lewis :edited: Its in here. ITs part of it. Cheating? Explain how its cheating The mouse moving by itself on my own computer is cheating. hmm I think some just don't like learning how to do it. Or get mad that they have to use some "outside program" which has no direct effect on SL by the way. Just windows. MY computer. LL decided to link the mouse movement into their program. The mouse is not part of SL. SL used the mouse that is part of another program. Windows or OSx. (Is linux client ready yet anyone?) Well anyway, The OS has the mouse pointer and runs the keyboard. Which I can, and will, do with as I please.
