ok, second idea...request idea......

years ago I was in a program called Activeworlds. Though SL is far more advanced, AW had a feature that was of great help.

When building, you could create say a prim box, hold down shift and hit any of the arrow keys and the prim would auto duplicate EXACTLY lined up with the original...so say you're building a fence across the sim. Create a box, hold shift, hit the up key, continue hitting it till your fence is sim wide, PRESTO, all perfectly lined up, perfectly straight, in a matter of seconds. I KNOW this would be wonderful in SL!

so whadda ya think, if I post the request in the voting section, would you vote for it? :)

Snap-to-grid duplication? Yes please.

You can get somewhat the same effect by checking the use grid checkbox and setting the ruler mode to local, then do a shift drag on an arrowhead and slide the cursor into the ruler area.

It's not nearly as convenient as what you described.

We have a duplicate key, Control D. Unfortunately we don't get to determine the offsets, it appears to use .5 meters in both x and y as the amount of offset.

Also, have your object selected and the edit window open, click the create icon, now on the middle right you enable the copy selection box. Now click with the magic wand on any side of the orginal object, you will get a perfectly aligned copy on that side.

You can already do that -- it's a trick I learned about 1 month after I joined, when a very nice angel came up to me in a sandobox and showed me how.

You click on CREATE, then right-click on the face of the prim you want to dupe (maybe vice-versa, I'd have to be there to show you, and I can't log in). It copies itself, exactly aligned with the original.

Don't bug the Lindens about something that you can already do.

Thanks, thats a good good thing to know. I might try to build something for fun with a lot of aligned objects. Like a floor.
