I'd hire a team of three-to-five developers, put them in a seperate building so they could work, give them access to all of Linden Lab's Second Life research, and charge them with implementing a licensable, shrinkwraped grid package that incorporated the new rendering engine, Havok 3, working permissions et cetera.

They would have to understand that this was a serious, traditional programming project; and I'd dangle the perpetual main office party as a promotion they might hope to be granted if they met the project goals by checking objectives off the list in a timely fashion and under budget.

But that's just my dreaming visionary self. I'm sure LL will spend the money wisely creatively implementing compelling numbering schemes to feed our gaming mentalities.

I would spend it on company structure: A solid customer care dept, specific employees to be held responsible for specific areas, a clear management structure. Normally these things make me cringe; in most businesses there are too many chiefs and not enough indians. I may be wrong, but from an outsider's point of view, LL appears to be the complete opposite.

Yeah, what he said.

But that wouldn't be a fun, innovative environment in which to work.

What I'm proposing is an office where actual work gets done so that the fun party supporting the experimental wora'uld of Second Life can continue with renewable funding coming from sales and licensing of the gold product.

Innovative?

New and untried? Yes. Stable and reliable? Not so much.

Given that we're still seeing asset problems, I'm thinking stable and reliable wasn't at the top of the list of things to create;)

Seriously, I almost wish that they'd at least go for Khamon's idea. At least then, we'd see a more stable system.. eventually. When those devs would quit sneaking over to the main building to peer longingly into the windows and wonder what they are missing!

With 11 million available... I would dare to dream.

The metaverse is an idea.

Just like the United States in the 1700's was just an idea.

Sure, we can get very absorbed in the day-to-day of the Virginia Company.

But I suspect business is best served by keeping a wary eye on the bigger dream, which will make or break everything in the end.

If I had 11 million, I'd buy a copy of the game Oblivion, Elder Scrolls IV and hold it in front of all the employees and say, "We have a goal. It is to make Second Life look as good as this or better. " I would then hire a couple of those guys you see on Roman Gallies with the whips and drums to keep the employees properly motivated then take the rest of the 11 million and head off to the Carribian and buy all the fruity drinks with umbrellas I can stand.

Let me be the first to volunteer to donate elven million dollars to the project! They may need it. I'm getting the impression that the eleven million has already been spent and didn't plug the hole.

What a great thread! I'd like to play!

With 11 Million dollars I would;

Implement a new server to stabalize performance and accomodate more than 50 AV's per sim without it coming to a standstill.

Institute a new graphics engine to further realize our 3d, immersive environment.

Hire a marketing professional. I'm in marketing. Linden Lab needs a dedicated individual to push their product to widest demographic possible and make it appealing. Contests, promotions, advertising, I want to see www.secondlife.com on products, not so internet isolated. Less RL in SL places and more SL in RL places!

Focus on improvement, not expansion. Improve the product, the people will come... currently it's happening backward... they're expanding and while we are certainly growing, not at the pace they've anticipated, so we have many empty sims at once that inadvertantly staggers the community.

Linden availability is very poor, especially during odd hours... we're lucky if 2 are on at a time and they're unually inundated. More in-world assistance would be highly beneficial. More Lindens!

If i had a eleven million dollars. id buy me some linden. (enough to fill up my entire menu bar).
If i had a eleven million dollars. id hire the guys at bethesda for SL. (to repair this broken physics engine using the one from oblivion which is a more advanced havok).
If i had a eleven million dollars. id wave it in an.she's face! (Weeeeeeeee!).
If i had a eleven million dollars. id buy The Forest back from her! (and run it succesfully).
If i had a eleven million dollars. id buy a million sims! (and enough class4 servers for the lindens to run them on).

Ok i'm done. :)
