there is so much lag in SL i can feel it, there should be something to stop laggy scripts or something because what fun is a game if it moves like a slideshow? many other people expirience this and you out there with alienware computers are saying its our video drives or get a really expensive cpu!? some people cant! so shudont reply! if you experience lag alot, post SOME IDEAS about a way to clean it up or just rant about it.. everyone else does.

Sometimes I lag, sometimes I dont. I usually have my draw distance way down, unless I'm in a place that actually looks cool, or I'm driving/racing.

But when it's bad OMFFFFFG it's bad!

Why you lag, the honest truth....

Outside SL

-Your computer is not up to playing Second Life (hardware)
-Your computer is not up to playing Second Life (software/spyware)
-Your internet connection is insufficient or overloaded
-Your ISP is having trouble

Inside SL

-Your preferences are set too high
-You are wearing too many attachments
-You are in range of too many badly written scripts (listeners, Sensors etc.)
-You are in range of too many well written scripts implemented incorrectly (landowners must also share the script blame, do you really need 30 sex balls?)
-You are in sight of too many high res textures
-There is a large ammount of rezzing objects in the sim
-There are a large ammount of avatars in the sim
-You are in range of too many light objects
-The sim is having technical difficulties
-There are too many physics enabled objects in the sim

Anyone who has any to add please feel free, this list goes on.

The bottom line is there are many causes for lag in second life as well as in any online environment. Run down the list and see what applies to you, certain things you can fix, certain things you cannot. This is the unfortunate truth.

Whining does not stop lag or indeed any other problem, raising awareness and collaborating to find effective soloutions is the best step, IMHO.
