to alt or not to alt..

regardless of alts, it's still impressive. i'm sure that out of 50,000 new accounts that a decent amount are valid "new" accounts. or possibly old accounts that are newly active again.
i was musing about this earlier today, tellling a friend of mine some predictions. think about it.. it took from public release to (i believe) the very end of December (or was it the beginning of January?) to reach 100,00. but it only took 2 months to grow by 50,000 more! at that rate (not accounting for fluctuations) we'll reach approximately 400,000 by the end of the year! but given exponential growth (which is clearly in effect), while accounting for the lower join rate of summer months, could we not expect to hit about 500,00 by years end? the crazy thing is.. that number may end up being on the low side. honestly though, i'd rather see SL grow slower than that. some serious work needs to be done to make the in-world experience a smoother one, in more than one manner. _____________________

I don't see it as impressive at all, because it's all unverifiable.
As a Greeter, I have had something like 50 requests since I started greeting. Something like 40 of those have never appeared in game, or responded to any offline messages I sent - which implies they never got into the game because they didn't read the game specs before signing up. Having spoken to other Greeters, it seems that they have similar experiences of 'no show' players. People say that there are only 5,000 people online 'at any one time' but so many log in and out during the day. If those 145,000 other players are simply logging in and out every day at some random time, that would mean around 100 people every minute of every day were logging in at the same time as 100 others logged out. The Suicide Girls were 100 such 'new accounts' counted in that 150,000. I've never seen more than two online at any one time. Of course it's in LL's interests to make those figures look impressive - it's part of their sales technique - but if I was buying an advert in a magazine with a supposed circulation of 150,000 only to find out that 5,000 people actually bought the magazine... I wouldn't be happy. It's the same for misrepresentation of population against potential investors. Lewis _____________________
