Account Verification Status and Rights

Will the different verification status's be able to used to justify locking threads ?

Such as , "Your acount is unverified, and you said something that was critical, therefore you are a troll and I will lock your thread."? Rationalization of senseless thread locking based on account age has already occurred. Is verification going to added to the excuses used to justify bogus thread locks?

Will unverified accounts be able to become official Volunteer Group members?

Should the verification status be displayed in the forums in the info area adjacent to each post? Or in the forum profile?

I, for one, welcome any opportunity that allows me to feel superior to others. And to abuse my status by repressing them and/or drawing attention to their inferior position. Let the forum caste system begin!

I'm banning unverified accounts from my land and only adding known alts of my friends. Don't like it, suffer.

Allowing residents to treat each other differently based on verification status is the intended purpose of having verification status. What use particular residents will make of verification status in regard to access to their land is not relevant to the question I posed.

The question here is whether verification status will result in different treatment by Linden staff, different access to opportunities offered by Linden to residents , and to different treatment by the ResMods, the Linden appointed forum overseers.

Should and would the Linden staff in charge of the resmods be willing to put in writing a directive to the resmods advising them that verification status should play no part in moderation decisions?

Are we creating a situation in which the resmods, upon receipt of a bad post report, will check the verification status of the poster and the reporter and use that in determining if a thread needs to be locked or moved for review by Lindens.

Thats more difficult. I'd say if they want to be a mentor, they can pony up some emthod of proof of identity to the lindens..

I don't like the idea of having to ban people on an unverified status. I see it amounting to an ugly class system.

That said, given the type of community I help to run and the kinds of problems we've been having lately, we will very likely choose to ban unverified accounts as well if we are given that ability.

*Sighs* I don't like the tool, but it is the tool we have been given to work with.

This thread does not concern itself with the use of the ban tools by residents to keep people out based on verification status. This thread concerns itself with how the Linden company and the official Linden volunteers, such as ResMods, will tread different types of accounts

How about an arm band with the letter U on it for unverified? Or how about a big letter on the front of your clothing? hmm where have I heard all this before? I'm sitting in the front of the bus call me Summer "Rosa" Carmichael.

Bottom line. This is a stupid idea.

I manage estate bans on 8 sims, and if I ban someone who can easily create 12 free alts and be back with them all doing the same stupid things, my security efforts are useless. Nevermind the fact that I expect the entire teen grid to empty as underage children flock to the adult grid to play with adult content and sexual exposure. It's insane.

If LL doesn't put back a CC verification, this will all end in a huge legal battle for LL as parents get angry that little Timmy just saw cartoon breasts in an adult game that he shouldn't have had access to, and all liability will rest on the shoulders of the Lindens.

At the VERY least, unverified accounts should automatically be restricted to PG sims, to remove any potential for kids in mature sims. If you don't like that idea, upgrade your payment method.

The Resmods are already full of the favoritism thing so giving them another venue on which to base favoritism is something I'd say they'll abuse to the fullest.

i hope so. a responsible ResMod will take into consideration ALL FACTORS when they make their decisions. They will consider who is Alt Trolling as compared to who is a legitimate new user. A ResMod that does not take into account every aspect when making a decision is not doing their job.


YES. If it is determined by their judgement that the person is abuseing the registration process to TROLL it is very appropriate. They should also be attempting to determine if it is a legitimate new PLAYER (not new account).

I hope not. Volunteers are the Unofficial Official Workers of Linden Lab. NO ONE should have those privledges who can not be tracked down if the position is abused. Even if no monetary transactions have occured any volunteer should at a min be required to supply their info.

Precisely. However, we know humans only think logically occasionally and will include this new 'status' differentiation as a factor in decisions other than those it was meant to serve and where it really, really, makes no difference.

I'm doing the first half of that, but I won't completely close the door to new people. I figure the average greifer is not gong to put down credit card info. I can deal with the few who do.

I personally do not agree on this 'added' item....it is actually nobodies business (cept the Lindens) of whether or not we gave a CC or PayPal information!
