Hi Crystal and welcome to SL
Most likely the jewelery you purchased has some sort of particle effects, sparkling and such... to turn it on and off you would simply type bling on, or bling off... hope that helps :)

Did you try out the command that came with the jewlery to see what it does?

What Bernardo said. Bling is SL's poor substitute for shiny jewelry, but what it actually does is shell people's graphics cards. Imagine a club with 30 people all wearing 3-4 bling items. It adds up.

There are worse things than bling (like high-prim hair) but other than it looking tacky, it's not your friend if you need the bandwidth.

If you have real issues with reduced framerates to a point where you cant really do anything anymore there is always the option to reduce particle effects from your options menu. Just as a heads up ;)

Yep, limiting the number of particles is a nice option, as distinct from turning them off completely.

Particles don't bug me framerate wise, but I just don't like to see as many as some people make. I find setting the max particle count to 512 works pretty well, you still see lots of sensible particle effects like spray at waterfalls or rays from rayguns, but when particle fanatics go berserk, it doesn't obscure the whole screen.

Just a personal opinion, but I agree witht he bling off comment. What is the point other than screaming "I GOT BLING, I'M COOL RITE?" It's distracting, makes the weaer hard to see and jus makes me think anyone with it on is just plain obnoxious. And if the jewelry looks nice, I can't tell because it's behind a 1x1m particle effect. Way too oversized.

its blingtards that make it bad. One or two pieces of bling, or a proper accent, are actually nice. Wearing 10 pieces of bling? ew

I agree; I think bling gets bashed too much. A single piece of jewelry (or set of earrings) that sparkles every so often is, IMO, eye catching and pretty -- the first piece of bling jewelry I ever saw in SL was like this, and I was fascinated. It's when you pile on the bling, or the pieces have a constant aura of particles around them, that things slide towards ugly.

It is just something designed to irritate others. I recommend buying non bling things. :)

I've seen too much bling ... and bling flashes that are waaay too big. They look more like paparazzi flashbulbs than jewelry sparkle.

About 80% of the bling-ing I've seen is too big. I can count the ones with just the right level of bling (and they look good).

Favor please? Smaller bling?

I love them.
