The 100 post limit for listing "new posts" is ridiculously low. With the expansion of subforums and "I just want to post to see my name in print" posting, the NEW POSTS link functionality is rapidly degrading.
Since you can't select New Posts from only the forums or subforums you want, you're left with two equally bad choices --- don't click New Posts unless you are willing to "live" on the forums and revisit them at least once every 3 hours - or accept that New Posts is at the mercy of inummerable forumtrash/ego/time-wasting postings and manually click on each forum at the expense of time and memory (what post in "x" forum did I last read? Oh, uh, maybe this one?)
If there is any way for it to be client/resident selectable, please implement that. If not, please consider adjusting the limit upward to at least 200.
(If you don't think it's a "problem", then go away from the forums for a either a couple hours on a "busy forum day" or any weekend....when you return, try to find the last post you read...see how many posts the New Posts feature DOESN'T show since that one.)

Seems about right for me, I rarely go through more than 4 pages of new posts.

Maybe a rss feed would help some? Is there one for the forums posts like there is for the police blotter? The "New Posts" button has the following link address: /invalid_link.htmlby adding a forum id number to that you seem to be able to get just the new posts for a specific forum New Posts For General, maybe Here are that links that might or not work and might or might not be of any value even if they do work. From: Lecktor Hannibal Tonight seems as good as any. STFU! I just spent a good hour trying to figure out how to solve this person's problem with the limitation on the number of new posts being limited to one hundred, reading sites on vBulletin syntax, tips, tricks, etc. I don't get to see the real code because I don't own a copy of vBulletin. Do you need to eat something and get some sleeep?

I've removed the personal attacks from this thread. Please do not attack personally those whom you disagree with in the forums.

LL SHOULD HAVE PROVIDED this... not a resident. It's basic functionality that could have been included in a pulldown menu. To arbitrarily limit NEW POSTS to all forums AND only 100 posts is insane. I'm not the type to type all that stuff into my browser... It would simply be easier to click on the individual forum links and try to remember. Thanks anyway. As for the peanut gallery comments... already trashed and ignored.

From: Iron Perth Hey SuezanneC, those are useful links. I've bookmarked a couple, thanks. Quite welcome. In the event there might be someone who hasn't noticed, there is an advanced search page, which can display posts made within certain date ranges. Useful, but not a substitute for a a new post function with either a unlimited range or a very long one. The advanced seach page is at /invalid_link.html, or reachable from the search button at the bottom of the button.

One can use the exclude clause with the vBulletin getnew action, the syntax is to add an ampersand followed by "exclude="and a comma separated list of forum numbers to exclude, as in: http://forums.secondlife.com/search.php?do=getnew&exlude=108,112 GetNew but not General of Off Topic That appears to get new posts but excludes the General and Off Topic forums.

The 100 post limit has happened before and it was subsequently fixed. Hopefully this will also be fixed.

I've increased the limit to 200. Let me know if that's not enough!

From: Robin Linden I've increased the limit to 200. Let me know if that's not enough! Robin, is the limit for searches such as finding all the posts by Jeska LInden? I tried that recently and it seemed to be limiting the results of that sort of search to one hundred. When I want to look at every post by Jeska Linden I want to see EVERY post by Jeska Linden, preferably including the archived posts along with those from the active forums but if that is not possible then it should return every post from the active forums.

The vBulletin software imposes a limitation which I increased from home. Now that I'm back in the office I'll find out 1) why there's a limitation at all (perhaps because of some sort of performance hit) and 2) how to make the limitation go away assuming that doesn't create a performance problem.

The "New Posts" button has the following link address: /invalid_link.htmlby adding a forum id number to that you seem to be able to get just the new posts for a specific forum New Posts For General, maybe ... Actually, the search page takes the following additional parameters if there is already a 'do' set to 'getnew' or 'getdaily'... 'forumid=X' will narrow the search to only the forum with the forum id of X. 'days=Y' will narrow the search to only posts less than Y days old. 'exclude=Z' works, like SuezanneC noted, to exclude certain forums. So, to find all posts in the Announcement forum for the last 3 days: /invalid_link.htmlPut that in your bookmark folder and smoke it.

inhaling and exhaling....
well, I last checked the new posts 6 hours ago, and when I hit new posts now I'm already up to 177. I really prefer no limit if it doesn't slow down the forums, but I've never noticed any degradation in performance previously.

From: LadyMacbrat Loveless well, I last checked the new posts 6 hours ago, and when I hit new posts now I'm already up to 177. I really prefer no limit .... This was exactly my point when I opened this thread. At a 100 post limit/filter, residents either had to give up on the NEW POSTS function or go through each forum individually. Still, as your post indicates, even a 200 post limit will run into problems on a "drama-filled" day --- and there have been MANY of those. There is also a "double-post" thread/issue with respect to new products - announced and discussed.. but that's just a reason that any artifical "new post" limit might be "Whacked", not an argument on my part that THAT should be changed.
