Just pointing out that in the HELP manual in the section "3D Terminology" under the heading "TEXTURES", the manual states:
"Textures in Second Life need to be in the form of a graphic file in either .TGA (Targa) or .BMP (Bitmap) format, set to 24-bit color-depth".
Now strictly speaking that is not true, since from what I understand you can upload 32-bit textures, (i.e. coontaining an alpha), and you can also upload JPEG's.
Might just be a matter of out dated information.

it used to say JPG but its not really a good format
Since i used to be MR JPG ill explain why
My theory was ill upload a 4kb file and ill get a even smaller file back
Nope ;0 not in SL
The problem is you upload a jpg and and SL recompresses it to JPG2000 what happens is that the JPG2000 cant tell whats really image and whats compression garbage, so it looks like its X times more detailed than it really is, and you get a larger image file sent back to you.
Ie take a blank blue image and compress it to jpg, its no longer just blue but a mix of 16million colors to make blue, you just increased your image by 15,999,999 color values...
They probally took it out of the documentation becuase it sux 32 bit not being listed? i dunno, maby they were smoking crack that day, i thought it used to say atleast 24 bit.
