Linden Research has spare processing capacity around to devote to purposes other that being on the grid or the island sims.

So how about having a sim for running benchmark tests?

To provide a controlled environment, access would be limited to one person at a time.

You'd go there, run a set of benchmark test scripts, and leave when you are through because there wouldn't be anything else to do there, and to make room for the next person.

It would time various things like how long textures took to display, have you change various settings and run the tests again, recording your system specs, and collect the information in an attempt to test in real world conditions the effects that different processor speeds, video cards, drivers, and different Preference settings have on performance.

Wow, that sounds like a fantastic idea.
