My shop has ghosts. And they, buy stuff?

Seriously I have people buying from my vendors but nobody is there.
What is that?

I have each vendor setup with a certain name. So I can tell right away where it was purchased from.
I am usualy way above my shop working and have a sensor that lets me know if someone comes in.
Basic shop stuff.

Anyway, once in awhile I get payed from a vendor thats about 400 meters below me.
And so I look at the mini-map.
Nobody there.
The sensore hasn't went off in awhile. And the name that payed for the item is not in the visitor log.
I know it's that vendor because I've checked and double checked all other vendors I have in other places around SL. And it's not just that one vendor that it happens with.

So I tp down.
Nobody. 8-|
I IM'd the last person this happened with. No reply.
Their offline maybe? Their status says Unknown.
This has now happened for the 3rd time in the past month.
Buwaa?!

Please tell me I'm not crazy and this happens to everyone.
But hey I'm not complaining.
If.. ghosts like to buy stuff its all good. A bit freaky but eh.

If this is just a bug, that gives out money, I don't want it fixed please.

Maybe they're buying it from a ways off? You can drive your camera around without your avatar and buy stuff from vendors. I do it all the time, especially in big stores. Just stand at the entrance and browse by camera, much easier.

I've noticed that you won't allways see the green dots on the mini map if they're in very close proximity to you (your big yellow dot hides it or something.). Not really a bug so much as the way it's set up. Could be that someone's buying something and then teleporting out very quickly.

But you say you have sensors set up: are they not appearing on the sensors or are you too far away to get input from them? Does it IM you or is it like a door chime that says the message on the public chat channel, or is it a visitor counter that you invoke to get a list of people, or...?

Hmm that could be. If I remember right, the only other person I saw on the map is the neighbor though. Heh.
But I'll watch for that next time.

The only other thing I could think of is major transaction lag? Like someone who came in yesterday before the traffic log was reset?
If so that scares me even more.

They probably buy from a distance and then tp out real fast. There isn't anything else around yet. Undeveloped area. That would make sense.
Now I feel stupid LOL

I was hoping for ghosts with a lot of money to spend.
Oh well.

Orrrr.... your notification is laggy. I have had friends buy things from my vendor, and I don't recieve the notification for money for an hour or so later (at the most extreme cases).

I was building on an island recently, and I noticed there were more avis there than were appearing on the map, and not close to me either. I flew around and looked, and there were half a dozen of them around the place that never appeared in the mini-map.

i've never had transaction notification lag, but i HAVE accidently put a vendor named after one sim in several sims accidently without remembering to change the names, then wondered where these sales were coming from

Just a little tip - I scripted my vendors to rename themselves to include their current location when they first initialised there.

Maybe some scammer stole a copy of your vendor and set it up hoping to make money off you, but was so stupid that they managed to have it still pay you ...

Ok, unlikely all things considered, but it's a nice thought for a Friday afternoon.

Actually, has that happened before with people? I use simple box vendors so I don't see how that could happen with these. Unless I had one set to give copies of itself on accident. I'm sure I didnt do that though. lol
But I've heard about some scripted vendors getting hacked.
Which is why I like boxes.
