The Age Play thread has made the general forum here off limits for me to look at at my workplace.
It'd sure be nice if this thread was in a group forum where people with the desire to discuss this matter could do so just as well as they can in the general forum and leave the general forum for matters that concern Second Life in general.
Some of the co-workers complained to the boss. They must be hipper than I am, I didn't even know what "Age Play" meant before reading the thread. I though it would mean a 50 year old with an 18-30 year old looking avatar like mine.
They can deal with a lot of things on peoples screens but mention of child sex role play is outside their toleration level.
I wish like heck we had a block thread ability, one that would block a thread and give you no sign of it.
At any rate, I think it would be perfectly appropriate to ask the moderater to close the age play thread because it does not meet the PG forum requirements.

See... this is your first mistake... what on earth makes you think the forums are PG? Doesn't matter what LL says... clearly they aren't.

Just curious, but how do your co-workers know what you are reading? Or did they spy over your shoulder and see the word age-play and went screaming to the boss. That must suck.

When we get an age play flare up there isn't much good to read on the forum anyway.

I Disagree completely. I dont talk to many age play people but most of those do it as some form of expression. Not able to have kids of their own. Recent deaths of children. Traumatic events when they were a child. Lot of the others do it because they like to play this game in a carefree and spirited manner. And to these people a child type avatar is the most appropriate for displaying their 'character' and attitude visually. The rest i know use it because they HATE all the fraking sex and mature content and choose a child avatar for the purpose to avoid getting flirted with. I dont know a single person yet who uses child-like AVs in a sexual manner. Not one. Should we ban all talks of people discussing their religeon? How about their sexual orientation as is concerned with managing communities to socialize? No. These are still PG topics in all regards. There is no reason for you to be offended. The age-play and other communities having threads is acceptable and encouraged. Anyone attacking them should be s uspended. Anyone who has already been suspended that does it again after returning should be flatly banned from SL including all Alt accounts as is detectable via the new hardware id verification. Learn tolerance. Learn your limits of tolerance and where you are unable to control yourself learn to avoid those locations. Stop feeling the need to put your word in unless its CONSTRUCTIVE to a conversation and provides solutions to problems or if it contributes to a discussion in progress.
I'm a christian. I believe in god and christ. Some of my best friends in life have been wiccans. I've dated a muslin. I've held enjoyable debates with athiests about our beliefs. What is right for me is not neccisarily right for everyone else. What is wrong to me may have VALID REASONS for being right for you.
All these concepts apply to age players. If you dont like them dont read or post in their threads.
As an example i consider horridly morally wrong to be playing a game or reading a forum while at work. I have no pity for anyone who whines "i can ignore my job and come here". But the truth of the matter is your employer may encourage you to take some de-stress time every now and then as part of your specific employers work ethic. So just because I disagree you should have even attempted to read the forums at work doesnt mean its WRONG for you to do it.
If you want your 'general' forum back why not instead suggest means of people creating specific "community gathering" forums. Put an entire section up for just age players. Another for furries with sub forums for specific anthro breeds. Add another for the star wars fanatics.
Provide a _solution_ like that up for consideration and then ask that 'community specific' threads be declared as Off Limits in the general discussion with all ResMods encouraged to transfer the threads to the proper location as needed. If you dont think people will listen make a policy that community specific threads mis posted will result in a verbal warning then ever increasing forum privledge suspensions.
Many ways for you to get your access to General back without interferring with the rights of others who happen to disagree.
And Suez for the record i DO think its wrong for _me_ to consider using forums from a place of work but I do _not_ judge you for it. Please dont take any of this as an attack if you happen to be reading it in any other 'mental voice' than ben stein. No anger or frustration intended in this posts tone.
=-)
- Edit -
PS. Your colleagues suck. Regardless of any other isssues they have no business reporting you because they cant keep their noses to their own monitors.

At any rate, I think it would be perfectly appropriate to ask the moderater to close the age play thread because it does not meet the PG forum requirements. There are 2 kinds of age play in SL -- one in which normal adults wear child avatars and play at being someone else's child, as part of a "virtual family" -- I've seen people wearing granny/grandad avs, too, which also qualifiies as "age play". Then there's the twisted kind of age play, in which someone wears a child av specifically for sexual fun & games. It's sick, but as long as the person _BEHING_ the kiddie av is an adult, it's not illegal. It's pseudo-kiddie porn, but not (unfortunately) illegal.
