right, i hope someone here would be able to solve this lil *well frickin big problem* i have

first things first i HAVE used the SEARCH function on the forums and could not pull up anything about this.

basicly, i have a piece of land that i have built a club on and i want to stream my own music to it, and dj a bit aswell with a mic,

i cant really afford to rent a shoutcast server, so was looking for a free alternative.

i found something called peercast and have set up a peercast server, but i really have no idea of how to get the stream to play in second life, i go to the peercast yellow pages which shows my stream, and can click on it and listen to it in windows media player, but when i copy the url into my land properties it dosent work.

has anyone else had any experience with peercast? or know of any easy free ways to stream my own music to my land? any help would be most appreciated!!!!

cheers ;-)

<shakes head>

Peercast is a good idea, but they have to have the client locally to use it, so it's not going to work on your land.

Sorry.

As to not being able to afford a stream for a club, that's the cost of doing business. I would advise rethinking your plans, as not having a stream in a club is like not having gas in a gas-station. It just does not bring in clientell...

If you want to do your own streaming in to SL (i.e. not just playing some other station), and it's for your own club (so you can't use anyone else's stream), then the cost of the Shoutcast server is simply an unavoidable cost of doing business.

Depending on your required listener cap and choice of stream bitrate, shoutcast stream hosting can be had from as little as US$2 per month (based on 5 listeners at 24kbit, from wavestreaming.com). If your quality and quantity aspirations are a bit higher than that, a 48kbit stream to max 10 listeners would run you $7.50 a month (same place).

I have to agree with the above posters that a stream is just unaviodable. But you should search for Jaime Otis he runs SL.server. I pay in lindens each month and for 100 listneers at 128bit I pay 4000l or about 14.00$USD. Much cheaper than any outside source I have found and much much much more reliable.
