Can anybody think of a use for this apart from games console ports? I use a 16:9 40" HD LCD TV with a monitor connection for SL sometimes. It'll be nice to view it at the right ratio for a change

Can anybody think of a use for this apart from games console ports? Many people use a 'media center' PC in the living room attached to the TV set.

From: Osgeld Barmy standard NTSC is 320x240 DV NTSC is 720x480 DV PAL? 720x576 wth did you crazy other ppl get 576 from? is that thin air or a magical hat? Umm... Analog (standard) NTSC is roughly 640x480 (actually 486), not counting several non-picture lines of resolution used for data such as multiple CC, time/date, channel info, etc. Digital NTSC (DTV) is the same, 640x480 (only it's digital) Digital HDTV varies, starting at 720 lines of resolution, all the way up to 1920x1080. Analog PAL is 576. I believe that HDTV will be the same resolutions in Europe as it is in the U.S., as opposed to the unequal NTSC/PAL formats. As for the usefulness of the added formats... well, I guess they are helpful for people who couldn't figure them out on their own. But, SL has always (since I started) been compatible with HDTV and widescreen sets. In fullscreen mode, you had to figure your resolution and enter manually (mine was something like 1152x640). And in windowed mode, you could easily stretch the window to fit the screen. And that 720x480 "DV NTSC" is really just a digital conversion of the 640x480 anolog video. The 640 gets scaled to 720 because digital video uses square pixels versus the slightly rectangular analog pixels (more pixels are needed to fill the 4x3 aspect).
