Thought experiment time!

Warning: this post is Pre-Cereal, so may or may not make any sort of sense.

Let's do a thought experiment. Totally hypothetical.

Let us posit that college is expensive.

Let us also posit that loans help pay for college.

Let us posit that about $US 25,000 (or therabouts) is needed to finish college at this time.

$US 25,000 = $L6.25 million

Let us posit that the Linden Dollar has a perceived, and thus valid, RL value.

Let us posit that someone (or a group of people) wanted to front the $L6.25 million Lindens, with the stipulation that it get paid back plus some (say, 20%, or $L1.25 million), "eventually".

There would be no set timeframe of payback, just "eventually". The only collateral this hypothetical college student would have would be his $L500/week stipend he gets from his account, any incomes received from SL (sales, etc.), and his reputation.

Would anyone front the money? Given that at worst case scenario, the money would be paid back at $L500/week increments (or $2000 a month), the loan would be paid back in 260 years.

But given that item sales becomd 100% profit after the initial prototype costs, and also given that perhaps this student's SL income could be around $L30,000/month, the loan would be paid off in roughly 17 years.

Feasible? Possible? Too risky? What extra stipulations would you set?

You are forgetting, once you get out of college and get a "hot shot" job. You could then buy a minimum of 120 USD of Lindens a month and cut the time in half.

As you say, if your only GUARANTEED income is stipend at L$500, and you're borrowing L$6.5m, that would be like 13000 weeks stipend, or 250 years to pay it back.

My stipulation would be that you guarantee that you live at least another 250 years.

Maybe you should eat your cereal now.

If I had known I would have gladly given you some. But I already gave most of it away to another friend in need and now I'm down to 5k or so.

Lordfly, honestly.. i wish i could help out here, but that's a bit of a stretch for me. (read: nowhere within my financial reach)

if i win the lottery sometime, then sure.. i'll front the money, but since i can't really count on that, it's not a likely solution.

perhaps you could set up a "Help Lordfly Get Schooled" donation box/store. have a box for charitable donations and have original items for sale that have been marked up a bit.. all in the name of helping you through school.

it may not foot the entire bill, but you could end up seeing a nice dent made in your bill.
