Note: a NO vote on the above means that you don't mind seeing threads that talk about "doing something" about a subject that the poster doesn't like.

Specifically, there is another thread that endorses putting the spotlight on a particular kink in the SL community. This is my response to that topic. However, this is NOT JUST about age play threads. It's about fur-bashing, religion-bashing, politics-bashing, and disussion of anything that involves activism that would curtail our freedoms as citizens of this virtual community.

---

Okay, we know your opinion. You don't like Age Play. (replace with the term Furries, Catholic deacons, or foot worship, as you see fit)

Deal with it.

I don't particularly like it either, but I'm getting a bit tired of seing new age play threads every day.

At least one thread has been locked, and at least one freuqent forum user has been blocked by his office from coming here because of the age play threads.

I'm formally requesting that a Linden close or delete any more of these "Age Play Activism" threads, and any other thread that is intended to harrass any group or individual.

Regardless of whether you, personally, like Age Play, the fact is that it's currently allowed in SL until a Linden states otherwise. What you are doing with these threads amounts to harrassment. I'm pretty sure that's against the TOS.

Freedom goes both ways

Well, I think that freedom of speech is vital, here.

What you're saying amounts to nothing more than the anti-age players are advocating: stifling someone's freedom of speech.

Perhaps Linden SHOULD allow the age play threads to continue, one at a time, to draw the posters to one place and give them something to rant about.

Think of it as a lightning rod.

Either way, our freedom of speech shouldn't be stifled just because you're tired of reading about something. The anti-ap'ers may be a little over the top, but this is an important issue, and I think they deserve the respect of being heard out.. regardless of whether you want to do the hearing (reading?).

Actually, to me, it means that you don't care and should let other's talk about it as long as they don't name names.

Isn't Jeska the one to decide that?

(Edit: I'm not taking sides, I think people should be allowed to talk about what they want.)

I just wish they'd lock posts by people less than six months old.

and we should really stop the buggers talking about religion too. It's like watching Punch and Judy meets South Park.

and politics. since they've all got such fucked up ideals anyway.

and science. and current affairs. and culture.

oh, and lag. because I'm fucking sick of hearing about lag.

in fact, if your post isn't about hoochie hair and bling - and not about them lagging either - just shut the fuck up, will ya?

Damnit, and I had a really brilliant post about how I am suddenly overcome with the desire to Give Kris All My Money and why I think everyone else should do the same. But it's not on the list. Oh well. Back to work. <wink>

I hate threads that start with the word PETITION: - can we do away with those too?

Ohhh and anything to do with the letter 'Q'.

If you want to talk about it, that's one thing

but people are now suggesting and endorsing what ammounts to harrassment (Come on: spy on them and post their activities on the web?)

That's just wrong.

I've said it all along - let the Forums be unmoderated.

Abusers will be dealth with within the terms of the Forum rules and the SL TOS.

Age Play thread was interesting until it wandered beyond OffTopic...

Right... so.... moderate the wrongdoers? that would make sense, right? Let's not ban a whole subject because of one persons ramblings on the subject.

Why, that would be like nerfing a feature of SL for everyone because someone had abused it once in 3 years.

This came dangerously close to becoming an age play thread.

And Taco, how many 6-month-old geniuses are posting here anyway? I was still drooling and crapping myself back then.

I'm just saying that I've seen 3 threads on the subject so far.

In every case, the thread devloved rather quickly. The current one is going downhill fast.

I guess I should have worded the original poll better, then. But there's no way to change it now.

It seems like the topic is a hot button that sparks angry responses; perhaps there is somewhere more appropriate than the general forum where people can discuss the sex habits of their fellow SL residents.

Also, when it comes to talking about "doing something about it"... I think that crosses the line.

I think Taco was implying that I have less of a right to an opinion than he does, since this account is new.

But I would have happily logged in with my original account, if only it hadn't been wiped by LL.

Oh well, that's what I get for not having broadband for a while.

True.

But does that mean that we should have threads here that say "ban the xxx"?

I'm seeing a trend on the forum here: Someone sees a practice that they personally don't agree with: fur, kink, even religion. They will start a thread about the subject about how much they hate the idea.

Then it gets locked.

So someone else starts a thread saying "Well, since that thread got locked, let's disucss THIS aspect..."

I'm all for reasonable, rational discussion of any topic of interest. What I hate seeing is a tacit comdenation of a practice posted under the guise of "did you know that?..."

I think mostly people just speak volumes about themselves. Give the forum community credit to recognise shit when they see it.

If someone says "furries all yiff and whats more they all screw their pets irl too" people are probably going to think "what a dickhead" and not "wow! no shit? really? Kill all furries!". And if they do, and they post it, we know someone else to be avoided too! :)

So,, you suggest we Ban people from suggesting we Ban People from expressing themselves, But if we did this we would have to Ban this thread, so the vote would never take place, therefore the Ban would never take effect,,,,,,,

Seems to me we have already acheived this goal as there is no ban against people demanding bans against people banning things,,,

Wait, I'm confused, what was the question again?

Angel.
