New Uses For Dance/Camping Pads

Currently these things are an eyesore. I hate dropping into a place and seeing zombies just dancing out in the middle of nowhere or camped out in the middle of a store. WTF?

But I don't like to complain without offering a solution so here's what I was thinking.

Put these people to use. Some examples.

Mannequins. Instead of 2D models, put out a pad with a pose, with a lable for the outfit you want worn. Then you have a 3D mannequin in you store. It gives a much better idea of how the clothes look on a real AV.

Extras. Nexus Prime has a jail, but normally it's empty unless someone is RPing. They could put a pad in the cells to keep the jail occupied. Got some sort of control center in your sim? How about pads that animate the AV to work the controls? How about extras in a club. Dancing. Drinking at the bar. Talking at a back table? What about a lifeguard at a pool? A receptionist? Things like that.

Things like this would help populate the city and bring it alive for the other players at minimal cost to the landowner.

Anyway, just a thought.

GREAT ideas! I thought about having the manequins a while back. When I first started putting flexi prims out, when I knew I'd be afk for a while...I threw myself on a revolving pose stand in one of the dresses, to show how the flexi's moved. And then put myself in my large display window. I got alot of GREAT feedback! But, when I thought about actually implicating this into my store to have 3D models...I immediately thought of the griefers. Especially now with the open enrollment. Whats from stopping some new person to hop on naked then in my store window naked? And if I do have a lable with the outfit I want...what makes them actually buy the oufit to promote it. I'm all for suggestions on that. But man, how nice would it be to walk into a club or something, and see people eating or drinking at a bar like it was really crowded. What's the point of having the booths if no one use's them.. :D

I'm glad you brought this up..hopefully we'll get some people interested and start seeing this in more places!

I know one one store that actually does this. However, their product is body shapes, and I believe their pose stands either do not pay, or only pay to avatars who are identified as legitimate modellers for that store.

I can see people now, chatting up to someone for an hour before realizing they are kept animated my a pad, while they are away... *giggles*

But yeah, I like this idea ^^

I vote "great idea" as well. :)

I bet you (or someone anyway) could even make some money building and selling these "pose pads".

I bet some of the "campers" would really get into their parts too. Such as being the surley guy operating the control panel, or the obnoxious drunk in the jail cell. Very clever idea Fury.

Whilst I stil remain in objection to "zombies" and "paid to artificially make this place look popular", these ideas do at least add some level of amusement to the concept, especially for the visitor.

I can see a zoo being a very interesting opportunity.....

what an AWESOME idea.. i almost wish a RsMod would "sticky" this..

sort of an NPC-ortof existance for afkampers.. y'know?

this could really be quite revolutionary on more than one front.

campers would be inherently encouraged to fill these roles more meaningfully than just sitting somewhere.. not even studying their navels. ugh.. but THIS!

this could really give some meanign and worth to camping, some creative worth!

rock 'n' roll, Fury..

rock and f'n roll.

Isn't that what it really equates to?

The useful solutions make sense. Heck, turn off autoreturn and have people hunt and pick finding prims that don't belong...

Besides, these things just artificially increase traffic values on land when what a smart stall/store renter looks for is *quality* traffic. One place I rented at last week tossed up camping chairs. Guess what? When that's up, I'm outta there. Wrong traffic.

Apparently the best kept secret in SL is that broke people don't have money to spend...

Hardly a new idea, just not widely implemented.

Fantastic ideas. Only concern is how do you prevent theft of the clothing item? But with regard to staffing control rooms and such ... really great.

I'm glad people like the idea. Maybe it'll happen! :) You can set the pose stands for group only (I think) and then basically hire models who only get paid by the pose pad. Give away one free outfit to them. That would stop griefers.

I thought they got rid of the dwell stipend. So it wouldn't be about making a bad club/store/sim more popular or making more money. Besides as soon as you show up you can tell it's all zombies. But as extras or NPCs it would be great. Maybe it's just because I'm coming from a RP background.

Fantastic ideas. Only concern is how do you prevent theft of the clothing item?

They could be issued a 'demo' version of clothes... with text stamp here and there, doesn't prevent from seeing what the outfit is like but makes it somewhat less desirable to steal ^^;

Very cool idea btw, think one of 'adult accessories' seller used a demo person on a stand in similar manner before, but combining it with 'public' camping pads is another thing altogether...

I LIKE this idea!

How about we take it a step further!

Script in the pad to take on the name of the person who sits on it, and then animate and talk for the person every so often!

Picture a pad that walks someone from the cell bed when it senses someone come within 10 meters of the cell and has it start yelling and shaking the bars! Picture a waitress with a built in animation that has her move between several tables taking orders and actually takes the items to the tables!

This has cinimatic potential!

Good ideas, this could have all sorts of applications.

How about a cashier sitting at a check out counter in a store?

In another thread I suggested a similar idea. Paying newbies to picket freebie sellers stores.
