Can't log in.

Is anyone else out there unable to log in? I have a 4 month old computer with 2gb ram and plenty of hard drive, decent vid card etc. Since this update I can't log in to second life. It doesn't get past the protocol version page and tells me it is unable to log in. I've deleted cache and done a complete uninstall reinstall 5 times now. Worked fine BEFORE the update.

I'm glad it isn't just me but sorry you are having problems too. I have emailed Lindens, any ideas?

Talked to Michael on the phone, its not at the LL end, cause he logged in ok...

Yes I'm with NTL but everything else is working just fine.

Im beggining to suspect its something to do with them.

I'm a little sceptical that it might be NTL, everything else works fine and Sl worked perfectly before the update. It seems a little suspicious that we get an update and I can't log in.

I'm on ntl and I'm in SL - so thats your conspiricy theory gone.

Last update I got in and Damen couldn't and he isn't on NTL. Every time he started Sl it would crash on him. A couple of hours later Sl was closed to log ins while they fixed the problem so I am suspecting there may be a bug issue affecting some users.

No conspiracy theory, ive just had all sorts of wierd problems with NTL in the past.

In case anyone has any ideas, this is what I've tried.

I've tried uninstalling and doing a complete install fresh FIVE times. I've deleted cache and rebooted in between each. I've reset my network twice. I've closed all programs such as zone alarm and my avg virus software. None of these seem to have helped me log on.

I have a 4 months old computer I got specifically for my second life business so it has all the bells and whistles necessary. I even got an NVidea graphics card because LL told they work better with second life. I have 2gb ram.

It worked fine until today's update.

Now i sign in, it says checking protocol. Then I get a window, unable to connect to second life the grid may be down please check the web site for updates.

Well they have been having problems with some sims crashing, sachi, so you maybe trying to connect to one of those affected. Have you tried loggin to a diff sim?

I never worry too much about probs immediately after an update, and semi-expect there maybe teething problems. I would only start to get concerned if I am unable to the following day.

Someone asked live help and pasted me this in yahoo. You know this is something that really annoys me, if there is an issue please let us know Lindens so we don't waste so much time trying to fix a problem that isn't user end.

I've just been having exactly the same issues.

First I couldn't get past the protocol verification, then I noticed I couldn't get into my account page (or any other https link).

After rebooting my cable modem about 3 times (eventually I left it off for about 2 mins and disconnected the router for the same amount of time) it started accessing https links and I could log back into SL.

try this:

power down your cablemodem
disconnect the network cable
wait 3 mins
turn it back on
wait 1 min
reconnect the network cable

worked for me!

It's possible it could be the ISP, but then that would be a local problem. I'm on NTL, and I got in ok.

if its any consolation i just spent the last 15 mins floating around off the grid for no apparent reason, then i got booted off

but of course
the grid is down
lol

I'm on PlusNet and I can't get in. Same old 'Second Life is temporarily closed...' message.

It may depend on what part of the country you're in too. Different areas are covered by different exchanges, so not every NTL customer will experience the same problems.

Thanks I will try it when Sl comes back if I still ahve issues but I had not trouble with http, only SL. Everything else is fine.

Yeah most of my http access worked fine too but if i tried to get to the SLwebsite using

https://secondlife.com/community/index.php

it wouldn't load, but if I used

http://secondlife.com/community/index.php

it worked fine. I also tried downloading something fom a website on port 81 instead of the default port 80 and got the same results (I've had that happen a few times since being with NTL and in most cases rebooting the modem seemed to solve it)

Hun, its just another Linden so-called imrovement.
