I call it being griefed Im new here so Im not sure the terms sl might use. I logged in and am at a friends sim. its a store where we make things and then sell them. So I log in and all of a sudden im being pushed and orbited out several times. I tell them that they're not allowed to do that here and to not upset prospective shoppers. They of course start with the your moms a fat bi888 and jokes similer to those ( showing there age ). But other then clicking the report abuse button ect. what does one do? Ive IM'ed my friend the owner of the sim. I guess he can ban them from the sim, idunno. people like that kinda ruined my morning as i wanted to log in and work on a house i am building. I pay for this game , buy linden dollers online and have spent so far decent rl money on this and now to have these types of childish actions prevent me from playing, well kinda pisses me off.

So help out a new resident pls. What do I do? How do I prevent such actions ?

thanx tons in advance for any help you may offer.

Well, IMO, I don't see much use in pushing the "report" button. Nothing ever seems to get done. Ever. Oh...unless you're part of some sort elite group...but since you're new...
</rant>

Really, the best thing you can do though, is to return to your area, rez a cube, and sit on it. If you're sitting on a prim, you can't be knocked for a loop. If you need to move, just drag the prim about with the movment arrows.

Second, place the griefers on your personal mute/ignore list.

Third: Report them for as little good that it does. Include the public chat log if they've used abusive language toward you. Click "show muted text" before submitting an AR if you've placed them on the ignore list.

This will cause them to start doing other nifty things like audio spam, and/or particle spam. Easily solved by turning off the sound in the game and using ctrl+alt+shift+equals to shut off particle effects.

Eventually, the children will get tired of a non-responsive person and leave on their own, or daddy linden will show up and spank them...if he ever gets home from work.

I have had remarkable success with ARs of late and I don't think I'm part of any "elite" group.

Never ever talk to griefers in any capacity. As soon as you identify them, get as far away from them as possible. If you engage them, you've only marked their next target.

I find that logging out for a few minutes usually works. They get bored and migrate never to be heard from again as they have no attachment to the sim and don't remember my name because I didn't bother to try reasoning with them.

Copy and paste any chat you want to include in an abuse report, and include the date and time the conversation took place and names of relevant chatters

From: Liana Linden
The "Include Chat History" feature in the SL viewer is currently under review, and at this time it is turned off....

We strongly recommend that you do manually include chat and/or IM in your abuse report when it's relevant to the incident. You can do this in two ways:

1. Copy and paste chat/IM from your Chat History window into the abuse report Details field.

2. Type a description of the offending chat/IM in the Details field and be sure to include the date and time the conversation occurred and the name/s of the speakers you are reporting.

Either you're drawing from an insufficiently large database, you're hanging around the wrong places, or you're defining "fucktard" too broadly. Yes, there are disagreeable people in SL, but that they get most of the attention doesn't make them most of the population.

Any time I see someone who I suspect may be a greifer, I sit on something. Rather harmless thing for me to do should I turn out to be wrong. The one time that it seems I was right the greifer got bored, mentioned loudly that he didn't like that everyone was sitting and left.

if you choose to take action (which is usally a last resort) due to no liaden reaction/sim crashing, orbit them out of the store, then ban or put up security. if you need any of these things contact me in sl.

Bummer of a way to start the day. Sorry to hear that.

My contribution to the advice I've seen here is that in addition to not engaging them in conversation, DO NOT retaliate.

If you decide to use some sort of weapon on, or get into an argument with, them, they WILL AR you. Then it becomes harder to sort out who did what to whom. And you risk being punsihed as well.

If you are completely in the clear regarding not saying or doing anything that could possibly be construed against the TOS, your good conduct accentuates their bad conduct.

Remember its always harder to tell the difference between 2 shades of gray, than it is black and white.

And AR's do work ... we just dont always see something right away. The more AR's against specific individuals, the faster action comes. So choosing not to AR someone because it "never does any good" helps contribute to that outcome.

You can see ARs in action in the Police Blotter section of the website.

Hope that helps :)

If you have status to use the land's access settings, there is no need to orbit anyone. Right click on the perp, select "More", then "Eject". You'll get a pop-up dialog that says "Eject", "Eject and ban", "Cancel". You can then eject AND ban in one click. Problem solved.

Make a new account and grief them back.

If that account gets banned, make another one.

Fun for all!

Abuse Report - Live Help
06-20-2006 11:14
I do not believe it is any of our best interests to teach people *not* to use the Abuse Report and Live Help options in these situations. A reduction in reports will lead the Lindens to believe all is well over the rainbow when it isn't. Also, in addition to the abuse reports, if you cannot remove the griefer, or bring someone in that can, get on live help. The first line attendant will give you the yada yada speech about filing an abuse report, send you a notecard, etc. But there are often Lindens lurking who will step in and take measures.

Always use the proper channels first, even if you personally believe that they are a waste of time. Its called good citizenship and we desperately need that to be as pervasive as possible as a stand against griefers and poor citizens.

When that fails, perhaps you can move on to other steps. It is important to remember, however, that there is a line at which you lower yourself to their standards.

Recently in Caledon Tamrannoch, one of our community was faced with a griefer and put out a call to the community group (five sims' residents and associated others) and within seconds there were a dozen of us there surrounding the now frozen griefer (fortunately, it was the resident's land). Unfortunately, the land owner had the bright idea of turning on health so she could 'kill' him and send him home. Oops. He got a number of us before he tp'd out. :) So I'd heartily recommend not trying that particular trick :) An example of when trying their methods back at them fails miserably.

Always take the highest road possible.

If you're griefed on your own land, especially a store :
1) sit on a prim.
2) go to about land and turn OFF scripts for the land. Heck, turn off building objects if you want
3) ban the offender from the land
4) get a security orb to make sure they never come back
5) IM the island owner and ask him to estate ban them
6) file abuse reports with LL

In future, I highly reccomend turning off 'rez object' permissions on your parcel if it is just a store, so that *most* guns/etc won't work there.
