This post goes out to full time Second Life professionals. Wednesday is now the official virtual weekend. We all know that it's far too risky to schedule client meetings on Wednesday, and when planning our work week, we should already be putting a little question mark near work scheduled to be done on Wednesday. Why don't we just go ahead and make THIS the day we pack up and go upstate.

Let's do tours of Activeworlds and go see all of our old builds and they say "Second Life" and get banned.

Well that makes sense, especially as it's an established tradition in SL now! But you need to move to the UK ... or no, perhaps not, we've got the highest cost of living on the planet atm it's not fun Actually though, for once in SL, given that 99% of all schedule is based on west coast timing , the timing of updates is not too bad for Europeans. I sit down at 8 or 9pm to start and lo and behold there's a nice new packet of bugs, um a lovely new bug free marvellously engineered client to play with Joking aside, I have to say the last few updates have been really good from my POV, I actually feel myself inclined to call them "updates" when I discuss them ! Makes a nice change!

This is okay if your all of your work is completed inworld. Texture based business, those with websites et cetera have plenty of work to do when the grid is down. Even flighty socialites who win by being the most often mentioned in the Blogosphere can post comments and participate in the chatrooms while The Grid Ah Hell The Central Grid is inaccessible.
We don't really get a patented virtual weekend. We have to create our own, you know, Your Weekend, Your Imagination. Why the hell would we give LL centralized control over that too?

I usually spend Wednesdays in meetings, on my company wiki, on the phone, and shoveling paperwork . . . proposals and contracts and correspondence and accounting and etc.
If I manage to take any time off, it's usually on Saturday or Sunday, because that's when my friends and family have time off, and the air show and the science fiction convention and the art & wine fest and the farmer's market aren't on Wednesday.
Yeah, not very cutting-edge, I know, but sustainable. I also attempt to work 9 to 5 (loosely, at least mostly in daylight hours), with exceptions for meetings with people in far-off time zones.
